Often when you decide to leave for Umbria or Tuscany, the people of Romagna decide to do the E45. However, starting from Rimini there is not only this solution. In fact, along the SS258 Marecchiese it is possible to go into Valmarecchia and Montefeltro and get to San Sepolcro along the pass of Viamaggio, at 1050 meters above sea level. From San Sepolcro the entrance to the E45 is immediate, if you want to head towards Umbria, Rome or other areas of Tuscany, or turn towards Cesena and Romagna.
Last Sunday I traveled the 'Marecchiese' in reverse, returning from Montefalco in Umbria. Noticing the exit, I immediately jumped into it, aware that on Sunday I would not have met any trucks, but perhaps some motorcyclists headed for the Via Maggio pass.
I enjoyed the whole climb from San Sepolcro, admiring a green-gold landscape made of woods and interspersed with fields of wheat to harvest. Then grazing cattle (here Chianina breathes fresh air) and finally he, Via Maggio and the hotel, bar and restaurant Emperor! Here time seems to have stopped in the seventies.
There is no biker who does not stop here for a beer, a sandwich, a steak, a pizza, making the coast to coast crossing. I also stopped and I do it every time I have the opportunity in religious silence, always taking the same steps: I head to the salami and cheese counter and I order. Yes, you arrive here and you can ask to have a nice sandwich made with all kinds of goodness such as wild boar salami, pecorino, Norcia ham, mortadella and more. All. Do it too, and then tell me if I'm not right.
