Il Trenanatale del Renon it's a Christmas market which can be reached in just 12 minutes by cable car from Bolzano. It is located in Soprabolzano and is known for its Christmas markets that take place inside old train wagons. The Renon Plateau is a very special place, with this cable car inaugurated in 2009 you will be suspended in a dream. The valley cable car station is located right in the center of Bolzano: the historic center, for a nice visit, can be easily reached either on foot or by bus.
Renon - Bolzano, the cable car
Il Renon train it was inaugurated in 1907 with a big party, a historical event for that time because finally the inhabitants of Renon could reach Bolzano in just 90 minutes, despite the difference in altitude of almost 1000 meters. It was a mountain train built on a Swiss model. At the beginning it was conceived almost exclusively for the use of the wealthy, later it could also be used by the Renon population.
It is a narrow gauge train: the last remaining of its kind in the whole of South Tyrol. Alternate some old wagons with more modern ones.
So the cable car is still in operation and offers several rides for those who want to relive the magical emotion of the early 900s and during the Christmas period visit the markets. The markets are located near the stations of Soprabolzano e Collalbo, for this reason it is possible from Bolzano to reach both locations first by cable car and by train afterwards.
