An itinerary by car departing from Bologna to discover the most beautiful places located in the hills of Romagna to reach the Riviera Romagnola, between Rimini and Riccione, always exploring and tasting the typical products. Plan your trip by car and have fun discovering the Bolognese hills, passing through Maranello, Riolo Terme and Bagno di Romagna, ending your car trip on the beaches of Rimini.
A few days ago I started thinking about how to set up a post on Romagna hills. We often talk about the Tuscan hills in Italy, but when we think of the Romagna hinterland there is nothing that this countryside can envy to the other regions of our beautiful country.
Landing by plane, rent a car in Bologna and organizes a nice itinerary for the Romagna hills, staying in the agritourisms around the Bologna area, up to Rimini. A week, but also 5 days walking around Romagna, appreciating the greenery and the hilly area of this region and not just its coast.
Ferrari, Mortadella and Lambrusco in the Maranello area
One of the first stops that I recommend, for those who love Italian flavors and beauties, including automotive ones, is the Maranello area. Between Modena and Maranello, Castelvetro and Vignola you can taste some of the best flavors of the Emilia Romagna region. Lambrusco, balsamic vinegar, Grana Padano, mortadella and so on and so forth, put more. The first real stop on a car wandering trip for me should be this, if only to get a refill of goodness to taste later on during the trip.
In the Maranello area, car lovers can visit the Ferrari Museum, refurbished for a few years, and fully enjoy the history of this land and its family.
Terme and Sangiovese between Riolo Terme and Bagno di Romagna
Continuing towards the Riviera Romagnola, passing through the rolling hills of Bologna and going down to Imola, you arrive at the area where the Sangiovese is at home. Here in between Predappio, bertinoro and in the Forlimpopoli area you can taste some of the best wines of the entire region. Here you can also stay in some agritourism and also see how the production takes place, how the cellars are managed, talk to the producers and, if you come in the autumn, attend the grape harvest.
In addition to Sangiovese, there are also excellent spas in this area. Riolo Terme e Bagno di Romagna they are two of the most renowned spas in the lower area of Romagna. In addition to the open-air spas that can be done throughout the summer, thus witnessing incredible views and unique night visions, you can stay a few nights in the farmhouses in the area or in the same spa facilities that all have 4 or even 5 stars.
Piadina and Mojito in Rimini
Rimini and the coastal area of Romagna offers much, much more, but fun and piadina are the two things for which it is most often remembered and mentioned. Obviously you must not forget the beautiful historic center of the city of Rimini, as the cultural activities that in Rimini, as in Ravenna and Santarcangelo di Romagna are organized throughout the year, but if you want to appreciate the specialties of this area, I recommend the piadina .
A Rimini specifically I recommend La Lella for a piadina on the fly e The Casina del Bosco for a more structured lunch complete with homemade cheesecake. In my opinion then you will not even have the strength to go and lie down in the sun. If you want to do this route in winter, don't forget to taste the cappelletti or passatelli, the typical dishes of this area. Fresh pasta dishes cooked in broth, a delight for lovers of good food, not to be missed.
And if you also want to stop here, after a 5-day car trip in Emilia Romagna, find out What to see in one day in Rimini and visit the Roman city.
