What to see and what to do in Cannes in just one day, where to go, shopping or what to see, curiosities like the Iron Mask, all in the post.
We talk a lot about Cannes , famous and modern town of Côte d'Azur, as a destination for entertainment and luxury; little is said about how many things Cannes can offer, even very quiet and pleasant ones. I want to make you a list of the things you can see if you happen to pass by at least a day.
Le Suquet
I'll start right away by telling you about my favorite area of Cannes, Le Suquet that is the old town, beautiful and very picturesque.
I recommend you go up to the Medieval tower, from which you can dominate the whole city and, above all, you can enjoy a magical, very quiet atmosphere, especially in the evening. Very nice to visit is the gothic church of Notre Dame de l'Esperance which is located on the square de la Castre and Museum de la Castre, where collections of archeology and musical instruments are exhibited.
The Palace of the Festival and the Croisette
La Croisette is the most famous street on the seafront and here we can find trendy clubs, international designer stores and luxury hotels such as theHotel Carlton, very famous for its Liberty style.
Another fundamental step is the Palais de Festival, where the very famous takes place every year Film Festival; pay attention to the sidewalk, it is full of the footprints of famous international actors.
For art lovers, a must is the Malmaison art center, which hosts numerous art exhibitions.
Marché Forville
We are talking about oldest market in the city and its fixed structure dates back to the 30s; here you can find all the delights of local producers and it is certainly worth the visit, both for shopping and for browsing.
Monday is the day of the "flea market", where you can find any antiques.
Iles de Lérins
These wonderful islands are located just a few minutes by boat from the port of Cannes and are definitely worth a visit.
The most famous is the Island of Santa Margherita where, legend has it, in his High, the mysterious has been locked up Iron mask.
They are islands immersed in greenery, in the crystalline sea, in the silence and in the smell of eucalyptus; you can't miss them.
Shopping
We cannot fail to mention shopping in a city like this!
The best streets, with shops accessible to all budgets, are Rue d'Antibes with the best known low cost brands e Rue Meynadier, full of shops of all kinds at a good price.
Personally I find it nice to walk both ways, but Rue Meynadier it remains my favorite, with local produce shops and affordable clothing stores; the street is narrow and it is really very pretty.
Let's say that Cannes doesn't offer a lot on a cultural level but, every time I go there, I leave a little piece of my heart; I love to walk in its narrow streets and savor the life of this delightful town.
