The beaches of the Conero Riviera are among the most beautiful in Italy. From Numana to Marcelli, from Sirolo to Portonovo, here are the beaches that you cannot miss, from those reachable by car, to those that can only be reached by boat or with the paths for trekking lovers.
I am from the Marche region, but I have only been twice on the Conero. To tell the truth, I think there have been many more times, also because as a child I lived with my family right nearby and I doubt my parents never took me.
Since I can remember, however, I have only counted two visits, the last time I was there just in these days. On these two occasions I visited several beaches in Numana, Sirolo and Portonovo and I was able to appreciate the cuisine of the Conero, the nature and beauty of these beaches and the deep blue water.
Why choose the Conero and its beaches over many other parts of Italy? I wondered and I found an answer that is good for me, but it is not necessarily good for you too eh. First of all for the proximity to my current city of residence, Rimini. From Rimini to the Conero beaches, it takes about an hour and a half in total to get to the sea. If I go on vacation I don't want to be stuck in traffic for seven hours, to reach Puglia or Sardinia, when in the Marche to be honest, there is the same sea. The second reason that pushed me to the Conero for the second time is the presence of sea and mountain in the same area.
The first time I was at the Conero alone, I have camped on Monte Conero. I have to be honest, I did something that shouldn't be done, I didn't camp in an authorized area but I pitched my tent on a green area and spent the night there. Waking up in the middle of nature in the morning was one of the most exciting things I remember from the holiday. The Conero offers the mountains and many trekking to get to the beaches that are right below.
Many of these routes I have done there and have arrived in isolated beaches, where you can get there either by walking or by boat by sea. Nothing too easy then, but the final satisfaction was many, especially since most of the times these beaches were almost deserted. Most of the tourists preferred to go where you can get there by car and only a few know these little beaches isolated from the world.
Numana
The two beaches found in Numana are still "first level". There is no difficulty in reaching the beach of Numana Bassa and Marcelli, which can also be easily reached by leaving the car right in front of the beach in the municipal car parks (€ 1,60 parking for the car for an hour), and the beach of Numana Alta. Contrary to what one might think, this beach is not positioned higher than the other, but is simply located closer to the center of Numana, therefore "higher". This second beach has a shallower seabed than the Numana Bassa beach also due to the three cliffs that are located on the sea and that protect its coasts.
sirolo
Taking a holiday in Sirolo is like going to a playground for nature and trekking lovers. Here you are spoiled for choice as to which of the beautiful beaches to visit first. Starting from the city of Sirolo, then from the top of Monte Conero and admiring the panorama that stands out in front from the belvedere, you can choose different itineraries and paths that will take you after an hour of walking, but even less, to the different beaches of the Riviera of the Conero.
Beach of the Two Sisters - named for the two huge rocks that emerge from the sea, which are almost sisters, this beach is of unique beauty. Until a few ago it could also be reached thanks to a path that came from above, but in recent times, due to a landslide, this path has been closed and the only access to this beach is by sea. The ferry that I recommend to reach the Spiaggia delle Due Sorelle is that of the Conero ferry operators. The cost for a round trip is € 20 per person and the ferry can be taken from the port of Numana or from Marcelli.
Sassi Neri beach - so named for the black stones found on this beach. One of the most beautiful and popular beaches of the Conero Riviera. Known above all by naturalists, this beach like all the beaches of Conero, in recent years, has banned the full nude inside. Getting to the Sassi Neri beach is not difficult, you can take a walk from the Parco della Repubblica in Sirolo or take the bus from the city of Sirolo.
San Michele beach - it is located right next to the Sassi Neri beach and here I had the pleasure of spending a beautiful day between diving and relaxing activities, such as reading and sleeping: P This part of the Conero Riviera beach is divided into two parts, you can rent an umbrella and sunbed if you wish, or bring everything you need from home and do it yourself. Getting to the beach of San Michele is not difficult, you can get there on foot or by bus that leaves from Sirolo every 30 minutes.
Urbani beach - like the other beaches of the Conero Riviera, the Urbani Beach has been awarded the Blue Flag several times. Here you can relax by taking a bath and visiting the beach caves, or simply falling asleep in the sun. The route I recommend you take is the one that goes from the center of Sirolo down to the beach for about 1km. Do not walk it under the midday sun, but try to take the least hot time. The effort will be rewarded with a noteworthy bath.
Portonovo
My first real holiday in the Conoro, I remember that it ended right in the beaches of this town. Portonovo remember that it surprised me because, unlike Numana and Sirolo which offer a rather quiet life in the evening, it is known for its DJ sets on the beach.
Mezzavalle beach - a long stretch of sand, a strip of white that gives way to the blue of the sea and its waves. Here there are no bathing establishments and you have to equip yourself with everything, umbrellas and deck chairs, if you want a little comfort. The Mezzavalle beach can be reached by taking a path north of Portonovo or by sea.
Portonovo beach - the beach that characterizes this destination on the Conero Riviera is also one of my favorites. There are no bathing establishments, but small fish restaurants overlook the sea and the wind, on some days, blows so strong that it also attracts water sports lovers such as surfers and windsurfers.
La Vela beach - the name of this beach obviously comes from the sail-shaped rock that frotates the terminal part of the beach. As for the Portonovo beach, you can also get here directly by car, but places are limited. If you don't find a place, the shuttle buses are activated to take you up and down from Portonovo.
