Visiting Sardinia in an economic way, we are in Costa Smeralda and specifically in Cannigione. Read the tips for a trip all in Italy, low cost and in the most beautiful Sardinia.
Often, when we think of the Costa Smeralda as a holiday destination, we imagine the crystal clear sea, dream beaches, luxury hotels, refined shops and worldly life. In short, a holiday full of sun and sea but not cheap at all.
It is actually possible to visit this stretch of coast, one of the most famous in the world, simply by organizing your stay not far from the most famous locations such as Porto Cervo o Cala di Volpe.
It offers us a chance Cannigione, formerly a small fishing village, a country developed for some time thanks to the boost of tourism on the Costa Smeralda. It is located in the gulf of Arzachena about fifteen kilometers from the famous emerald beaches.
Among other things, some of the beaches in the Gulf of Arzachena have nothing to envy to the best known of the Costa Smeralda.
The most beautiful beaches near Cannigione (towards Palau) are Le Piscine and Mannena, a long white beach with an enchanting sea, equipped only in some parts. The most comfortable beaches are: La Conia, the beach of the Cannigione pier which are located right on the seafront of the town, and the Tanca Manna beach, large, equipped and with ample parking.
Continuing in the direction of Palau we find other small beaches and inlets up to the long one Saline beach.
The possibilities of accommodation in Cannigione are many and for all budgets, there are many houses and apartments for rent, farmhouses and b & b, some hotels, residence and a campsite by the sea. You can find many services dedicated to holidays: rental of scooters, bicycles, surfing and windsurfing, inflatable games for children and many offers of boat trips to visit the unmissable La Maddalena Archipelago.
A lively town even in the evening thanks to the stalls on the port, the restaurants and bars for an aperitif and thanks to the beautiful promenade along the seafront with a stretch of cycle path.
Visit the Costa Smeralda starting from Cannigione
The best known beaches are located in the direction Cala di Volpe e Romazzino. In Abbiadori, instead of going towards Porto Cervo, continue towards the famous Hotel Cala di Volpe. Before arriving at the hotel a dirt road takes us to beaches of Liscia Ruja, Cala Petra Ruja e Race of Junco, a marvel for the eyes: crystal clear sea, golden beaches and the Mediterranean scrub interspersed with granite spurs.
Continuing past the hotel we find Capriccioli, perhaps the best known beach of the Costa Smeralda, enchanting. Finally the Beach Prince, which made the Aga Khan fall in love with this land, and the beach of Romazzino.
Returning to Porto Cervo we find other dream beaches such as Piccolo and Grande Pevero.
The architectural style of the village of Porto Cervo it's unique, you may like it or not, but it's worth a visit.
Porto Cervo can be visited on foot, small streets, shops, clubs that develop around the famous Piazzetta; then the promenade of the marina, well-kept in every detail, with shops and restaurants.
A lesser known destination, but one that I recommend when visiting Costa Smeralda, is the small town of San Pantaleo, a characteristic village surrounded by large granite spiers. Here the atmosphere is that of tradition, the stazzi and houses in the center are well preserved, there are artisan shops and on Thursdays a lively summer market.
Tips for trips to Sardinia
In Sardinia it is advisable to travel with a own vehicle because there are so many places to visit during the holiday and the public transport system is lacking. In Arzachena, however, there is a service of bus called Lu Pustali which in summer connects all the beaches of Cannigione and the Costa Smeralda.
