There is a region in Italy that "sits" on an unexplored tourist heritage and is just waiting to be discovered. And the Molise, a small portion of the peninsula, only two important cities, great natural, archaeological and artistic beauty. Apart from the coast, which is still a short stretch on the Adriatic - 30 km between Vasto and the beginning of the Gargano - where tourism exists and is visible, especially around Termoli, which is a beautiful coastal center, the rest of the region is very little developed from a tourist point of view. This has advantages and disadvantages.
The advantages: very few people. In the middle of August there is no elbowing for anything or anywhere! Furthermore, the prices are absolutely low cost.
The disadvantages: the receptivity is poor. I'm not talking about hotels, but also about simpler structures, from camping to bed and breakfast. In some areas you will not find anything. It is also true that there are no signs prohibiting free camping, and indeed in certain areas we find more or less spontaneous groupings of tents and campers, which form do-it-yourself campsites.
Of course there are no services.
On the other hand, no problem to eat: each village offers an unpretentious trattoria that has local delicacies on the menu, from always homemade pasta to wonderful cheeses and dairy products, grilled meat, vegetables. And the bill is low cost.
