Excursions in the Dolomites, from Veneto to Trentino to Alto Adige, here are the five routes for beginners but also for those who are more trained in trekking, all the tips in the post.
When we think of the mountains we all imagine the Himalayas, the Andes or the Alps, but between Trentino, Veneto and Alto Adige there are elegant mountain groups which with their spiers and lunar landscapes have become Unesco Heritage: the The Dolomites. Ready for a walk? Here are five itineraries for scenic excursions that I recommend you do.
Brenta Dolomites
This is an excursion that I absolutely recommend to everyone, especially those who approach it for the first time to the mountain. We are in Trentino, precisely in the Natural Park "Adamello Brenta”, A few kilometers from the renowned ski resorts of Madonna di Campiglio and Pinzolo. It starts from Vallesinella (1.510 mt.), Reachable by shuttle bus or with your own car: climbing through the woods on path no. 317 we reach the Casinei Refuge (1.825 mt.).
It then continues on path no. 318 “Sentiero Bogani” and as you go up the vegetation thins out, giving way to a breathtaking view of the Crozzon di Brenta. Continue passing through a short tunnel dug into the rock with a Madonna inside it, until you see the Brentei Refuge (2.182 m) and the Bocca di Brenta behind it, while the bastion of Cima Brenta, the ramparts of Cima loom around it. Mandron and those of the Punte di Campiglio. In the distance you can admire the frozen ridges of Adamello and Presanella. Ascent time about 2 hours.
Three peaks of Lavaredo: Tre Scarperi
This time I'll take you in South Tyrol, precisely in the Sesto Dolomites, in Val Pusteria, and let you discover one of the excursions that will offer you a panorama that you will not forget. A road branches off from Sesto Pusteria and leads to a parking lot about 20 minutes from the Tre Scarperi Refuge (1.626 m) in Val Campodidentro. The place is enchanting and is dominated by the very high stands of the Scarperi on one side and the Baranci on the other. From the refuge you go up on a path with a good slope through a scree up to the beginning of the wood.
Continue until you reach a short rocky wall that you overcome with the help of a metal cord, but don't worry, it's nothing challenging! It passes at the foot of the Tower of the Scarperi and you reach the Alpe Mattina pass (2.446 mt.). Finally, before our eyes the overhanging north faces of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo open up in all their splendor, one of the most exciting natural wonders that the Dolomites can offer. Ascent time about 2 and a half hours.
Piz Boè
Here is again a comfortable comfortable excursion, this time in the Sella group, al border between Veneto and Trentino-Alto Adige: Piz Boè, one of the 3.000 easiest in the Dolomites. The Pordoi Refuge (2.849 m.) Represents the starting point of the excursion, and can be easily reached by cable car.
Once you reach the refuge you go down towards the Pordoi fork; then on flat ground you reach the base of the Piz Boè pyramid and after a steep but short climb, facilitated by metal cords, you reach the summit where the Capanna Fassa (3.151 meters), a refreshment point, is located. From here you can enjoy a 360 ° panorama of the Dolomites, which will take your breath away. From the top you can descend with another path to the Piz Boè Refuge (2.871 m). Ascent time about 2 hours.
Averau & Nuvolau
Now I take you in Veneto, in the vicinity of Cortina d'Ampezzo. Yes, of course there are hikes to do here, but I propose one that is really simple and not at all demanding and moreover with the possibility of making two peaks: Averau (2.647 m) and Nuvolau (2.574 m). At an altitude of 1.900 meters, next to the road that climbs from Cortina to the Falzarego pass, there is a parking lot and the Bai de Dones Refuge. From there starts the chairlift that leads to the Scoiattoli Refuge (2.230 m). Climb towards the Averau refuge (2.416 m.) And diagonally cross a gravel ground.
With serpentines you reach a short rocky strip that is overcome through an aided path. Then along an easy path through the debris you reach the top. After having gone back down the same path and past the Averau Refuge, one of the many traces of the path goes up the wide slope that leads us in a short time to the top of the Nuvolao and the homonymous refuge. The view from here is extraordinary. Ascent time 2 hours.
Marmolada
To conclude with a flourish, one cannot but speak of Queen of the Dolomites: the Marmolada, which with its 3.344 meters is the highest peak. You can reach the top, Punta Penia, with the beautiful and easy ascent along the normal route across the glacier. From the refuge Pian dei Fiacconi (2.626 mt.), Reachable by cable car starting from the Fedaia lake, go up on mountain rocks up to the glacier front. Put on the crampons, continue along a slope and then cross a crevassed area.
At the end of this one leaves the glacier to climb an easy rock wall (XNUMXst degree), also facilitated by metal frames. Wearing the crampons again, you pass a steep and exposed crest, called the “Schena del Mul”, which leads to the upper cap where the Capanna Penia and the summit of the Marmolada are located. The view of the surrounding Dolomite groups and the border peaks is simply magnificent. Ascent time about 2 and a half hours.
