Roman Holiday is the name of a restaurant near viale Jenner in Milan, precisely in via Bernina 43 and not far from the Maciachini metro stop. Of course I was in the area for work and I asked my colleagues for a place to eat but without the usual and unpleasant Milanese frenzy of 'eat and run that I have to run to the office'. My philosophy is contrary to all this, so even if I have an important meeting at 14 pm I eat everything and I don't mind the heaviness, but at the obvious cost.
As soon as you enter the restaurant you feel like you have entered another world, wood everywhere, giant pictures of great actors like Vittorio Gassman, Nino Manfredi, in short, the air you breathe is that of the great Italian films of the XNUMXs. Very positive.
Unfortunately, the menu is not exactly a Roman-style meal, offering for example just four first courses. The choice, a cordial maitre d 'explains to us, is made for the fast & furious workaholic from Milan, few choices, maximum yield, immediate speed. So let's focus on a classic 'cacio e pepe', although the company had rebuked me with an' eye on pepper, here they abound! '
Oh well, contemptuous of the danger, I order it anyway and ask for a wine from the castles (are we at Vacanze Romane or not?), A glass. There is not. They divert us to the house wine or a mediocre one Chianti from Arezzo, but always a chalice.
In the end, the cacio e pepe was not so invasive of pepper, on the contrary, but also of cacio, I would say almost not reached. In short, a Milanese-style cheese and pepper, a little too light. Then I conclude with the only dessert available instantly ...panna cotta and caramel. Buonino. In the end it was a decent but unspectacular lunch, but I'll be back next month to hope for some improvement in the menu and wine. I spent 13 €.
