He knows' Pesta, the traditional Genoese restaurant preferred by locals. When I thought about where to eat at Genoa ho asked for advice on what and where to eat typical, cheap and obviously good and local. Many were the answers and some even pointed to the famous Sa'Pesta as a good one low cost alternative with real Genoese food.
Going to Genoa is absolutely to try a Genoese pesto pasta dish, one of the 10 traditional dishes of Genoa. So, I didn't get it repeated twice, I did my research and came to the conclusion that the perfect place for me was without a doubt Sa 'Pesta.
Let's say that partly I found what I expected, partly not. The place is quite big, you can't book and there are huge tables, if I remember correctly there are no places for 2 or 3 people. You sit on benches if it is okay or on stools if it is bad because they are quite uncomfortable. We sit down next to other people and eat a little all together. If you are thinking of a day trip to Genoa, consider this place, if you want to stay longer, let's say a weekend in Genoa, also opt for the classic focaccia and all the Genoese gastronomic repertoire that really deserves.
No problem for me, but I'll write it in case any of you don't like it. What I ate: a mix of appetizers with fish and vegetables and farinata and then I was delighted with a delicious dish of trofie with pesto. Overall the service is fast, the food is kind of what it is, definitely delicious, no frills, paper placemats, water and wine.
The price we paid for our lunch was around € 15 per person, nothing more, but honestly for the service and the place there is absolutely no wonder. I'm sure the place in the Twine Guide (where I got the information for the choice of my lunch) was absolutely deserved, both for the fact that it is still a typical place in Genoa, and because you eat well, and it is a place that I would recommend thinking of the Ligurian city. One thing that left me a bit with a bitter taste in the mouth I have to say it.
Shortly after my arrival, a well-known actress entered the club, Claudia Pandolfi, together with friends and other people who had been reserved a table and no problem. They were given placemats different from ours, signed Sa 'Pesta, with I believe the history of the place or something typical Genoese written above. Alla request from my neighbors of table to have a couple of them too, the waiter has denied the request saying: we have few ... and to say that Pandolfi doesn't even have a blog.
Accident with the actress apart, the place deserves for its simplicity, the cuisine very good and as said the place, without frills, with only the desire to make their cuisine known and as from the Genoese spirit, very direct!
