Who comes to Amsterdam on the train you will certainly notice from the window a curious and sparkling white building, which like a huge shark seems to emerge from the waters of the Amstel. This is theEYE, cinema's Museum, which reopened its doors to this spectacular new venue last April and promises a full program of high-level exhibitions and screenings.
With four projection rooms, EYE offers the works of filmmakers from all over the world organized in critical reviews, festivals and film history paths, especially with an eye to the contemporary scene.
A part of the institute is dedicated to temporary exhibitions, in which the experiments of the most innovative filmmakers or monographic exhibitions on the masters of cinema are exhibited. A Stanley Kubrick exhibition inaugurated the season of the new museum, while now until December the Expanded Cinema works by Isaac Julien, Fiona Tan and Yang Fudong are on display, with incredible installations for new film viewing experiences.
The last strong point is the cafeteria of the museum, a welcoming space with steps overlooking the city and a large terrace to be exploited on sunny days, where you can comment and discuss the films you have just seen while sipping a good tea.
Getting to the museum is very easy: just board the free ferry, in service 24 hours a day, from the pier behind the central station, which allows you to reach the other side of the city offering a lively view of the river and canals.
