Where to sleep in Venice, five cheap hotels for a holiday in one of the most romantic cities in the world without spending an exaggeration.
Venezia it is a magical, romantic, sweetly melancholy and expensive city.
Do you want because in Venice the crowds of tourists are never lacking, or because here everything costs more because of the logistics (everything can be picked up by boat and unloaded by hand), or because "oh yes, for once I go to Venice! ”, Finding a place to stay at affordable prices is a challenge.
Here we have selected 4 1-star hotels that we liked them because of something more they have compared to the others and that they have rates that are tailored to a 2 night stay in Venice without taking out a mortgage. Then there is a small hotel on the Lido which deserves special mention as it is a 2 star with very affordable prices and very good quality; we could not fail to report it. Remember, however, that you have to add the tourist tax to the prices.
Peron house
Peron house in Salizada San Pantalon is a gem.
The entrance is neat and tiny, but already from the entrance you can see the care that the new managers are putting into it.
Renovated four months ago, the rooms are different from the others, some with particular details such as a small internal wooden staircase to reach the room floor, a small "sotoportego" (just Venetian style) to enter a large room for standards of the city, gold colored walls to warm the environment.
Breakfast is an extra and is served in the breakfast room.
The rooms are both with private bathroom (all with shower) and with shared external bathroom (in this case, each room still has a shower and sink inside).
The area is quiet because it is not on the most popular routes, but rest assured that there is no shortage of bacari and restaurants where you can try Venetian specialties such as “sarde in saor”, cuttlefish cooked in black on white polenta and much more.
Another strong point: the staff is very ready with a whole series of information and tips to help you discover the wonders of the city.
Rates range from € 100 per night
With stays longer than a single night there are reductions.
Santa Lucia hotel
Fall in love with this small hotel in a hidden calle of Lista di Spagna (the "road" that leads from Santa Lucia station to Rialto and Piazza San Marco) for its position but above all for the garden and the roses.
Let's start from the position: we have said that it is the long Lista di Spagna, so in a few steps you are in the flow of paths to reach San Marco, Rialto and the other main points of the lagoon city.
But the advantage of its position is that it remains in a side street, calle della Misericordia, and therefore just a turn and you will leave the noise behind you to immerse yourself in the quiet. Around the building that houses the hotel there is a small rose garden with white buds that helps even more to abandon the memory of the chaos of a few minutes before.
When the season allows it, and therefore soon, you can also have breakfast in the garden.
The rooms are with private bathroom or shared bathroom and some have access to the garden.
Rates range from € 70 in low season for a double shared bathroom to € 120 double room with private bathroom in high season. Here too, breakfast is separate and consists of a continental one.
Hotel Minerva
Directly on Lista di Spagna so as not to miss any of the hustle and bustle of the city.
The rooms are large and the staff is particularly helpful and courteous, a particular not to be underestimated if you want help to get your bearings in Venice and give you tips on what to see and what to eat. But the gem of the hotel, which for a 1-star hotel is not of little value, is that breakfast here is both sweet with homemade cakes and fresh fruit salad as well as a selection of cold cuts and cheeses.
That's why foreign tourists like it a lot.
Rates vary according to season and occupancy from € 60 for a double with shared bathroom to € 90 double with private bathroom, breakfast not included. Wifi hourly rate from € 2.00
Al Gobbo hotel
If you are patient and not in a hurry, Venice will give you incredible stories, like that of the original owner of theAl Gobbo hotel in Campo S. Geremia.
He, of Italian-Australian origin, wanted to return to the kangaroos and so he left the hotel for 500 lire to a young woman who came from the mountain area of Treviso. Stories from a lifetime ago.
But the current owners will gladly tell you about it and will also show you the painting / caricature of the hunchback. That he was really hunchbacked is then shrouded in mystery: in reality his name was Gobbo.
Today Alessandro manages the dozen rooms and takes care of the well-being of the guests. Movement is always a lot. Very suitable for: lovers of old stories and cat lovers, because here the royal master is Teo, a splendid specimen of red cat that wanders undisturbed between the corridors and the reception area.
La Pergola Hotel
1 shining star at the Lido of Venice which became 2 after the 2010 renovation.
Small, secluded and welcoming, La Pergola it has large rooms and some with balconies to enjoy the air of the lagoon that reaches there. La Pergola is a 10 min walk from the vaporetto station from which you can reach Venice in 15 min and 5 min from the beach.
From the Lido you arrive in a short time to the islands such as Murano, Burano, Torcello or San Lazzaro degli Armeni, to say, but also to the airport. The breakfast has no hot dishes, but you can find a decent continental.
