Florence, the rose garden in Piazzale Michelangelo

Florence, the rose garden in Piazzale Michelangelo

One of the most beautiful public parks in Florence is the Rose Garden. It is a municipal green space that extends towards the hill of Piazzale Michelangelo where the most present flowers are (obviously) roses, of many qualities and well cared for, but there are also other plants and many trees.

In the lower part, the one near Porta San Miniato, there is also the Japanese garden, created in honor of the twinning between Florence and Kyoto. In this period the Giaridno delle Rose lives its maximum splendor, however it is open all year round; it can be a nice stop for exhausted tourists for green meadows to rest or sunbathe and is also enriched by statues donated to the city by the Belgian artist Folon, who died a few years ago. They are poetic and somewhat naive figures, which integrate well with the garden. Oh I forgot, the entrance to the Garden is free.
