Today I'm talking about the Forte Belvedere, which dominates the city from the hills beyond the Arno: a monument, a Medici symbol, a panoramic place. It reopens today, 8 July, after years of closure linked to two tragic incidents, but for us Florentines the “Forte” is a place of the heart. maybe IL place of the heart. Those who went to high school in the 70s / 80s used it as a destination for the gallows (read for non-Florentines: do not go to school); or he went there with the boy / girl, because it is a super romantic place, with nice green lawns on the ramparts; or he would bring his foreign friends to show them the uniqueness of this city, which from up there is not only beautiful but seems to touch it with the hand.
From today the Forte Belvedere reopens to the public, until 13 October. Before, you didn't pay for an entrance ticket, now one has been introduced as the Forte Card, it costs 5 euros and you pay only once.
Furthermore, the Fort is once again the perfect location for the exhibition of the works of a contemporary artist. A habit that began with Henry Moore, in 1972, and that ended with Folon and his poetic and dreamy 2005 exhibition.
Now the Fort presents the sculptures of the Chinese artist Zhang Huan. The exhibition is called The Soul and the Matter, the large sculptures are made of different materials, some caducous, made of incense and ashes, slowly “break down” due to atmospheric agents. They are spectacular works and dominate the city.
In short, if you come to Florence this summer do not miss this place. Admission to the exhibition costs € 14 (second location in addition to Forte Belvedere also Palazzo Vecchio); 8 July-13 October, 10-20 hours, closed on Thursdays.
