Salento is full of wonderful beaches, coves and crystal clear water. But which of these are free? Here is a list of the five most beautiful free beaches in Salento.
Il Salento it is the most touristic area of Puglia, which offers long beaches overlooking an enchanting, clean and still uncontaminated sea. The many bathing establishments, often quite expensive, alternate with free and equally splendid beaches, indeed often even more beautiful because they are more inaccessible and secluded. But why take a holiday in Salento? Obviously for the wonderful sea, for the sand with invisible grains but also for the quality of food and life. But how much does all this cost? In recent years, unfortunately, the cost of holidays in Salento has increased. Here then we want to help you by giving you some tips to save, even in Puglia.
Here are just some of the best seaside resorts in Salento, but the list is really much longer:
1. Porto Selvaggio, located in the municipality of Nardò (Le), it is a beach characterized by cliffs that also emerge at the water level. To reach the coast it is necessary to walk along small paths immersed in the Mediterranean scrub and gym shoes could be useful, but the sea and the view will be fully rewarded. Perhaps given the presence of the rocks it is one of the few Salento beaches not particularly suitable for children.
2. Porto Badisco, located 8 km from Otranto (Le) even here the sea is to lose your head and according to the legend it would be the first landing of Aeneas fleeing from Troy, as told in the Aeneid. Characteristic are the caves on the coast including the Grotta dei Cervi and the Grotta delle Striare (the Witches).
3. Bay of the Turks, also this locality is situated near Otranto and according to the legend in this splendid beach the Turks landed in 1480 to besiege Otranto. There the white sand is the host but it is possible to find areas of gravel: you get there by following a path immersed in the typical Mediterranean scrub.
4. How can we forget what are nicknamed le Maldives of Salento! We are talking about the beach of Pescoluse, in Marina di Salve, characterized by a very fine and white sand as well as particularly extensive: 4km of beach ranging from Torre Vado to Torre Pali, really not to be missed!
5. Torre dell'Orso in Melendugno, characterized by the typical stacks called "the two sisters" and by a very delicate sand. Legend has it that the two stacks were born as two sisters decided to escape from their everyday life and went to the sea on this beautiful beach, then kidnapped by its charm they never managed to return to the shore and were therefore transformed into these high cliffs that emerge from the sea.
6. Punta Prosciutto (Li Prisuddi in the local dialect) in the Porto Cesareo area, a small town in Salento, particularly suitable for children for its white sand that never gets deep, but also adored by the most grnadi because it is surrounded by pleasant Mediterranean scrub and with scenarios that can evoke beaches tropical.
7. A special mention also for Castro Marina, between Otranto and Marina di Leuca, characterized by rocks, but with wonderful and very clean water. You can not miss a leap to Zinzulosa cave… Really interesting from a speleological and naturalistic point of view.
In short, in Salento the beaches are all divine and, most interestingly, many are free to access, an element that allows us to limit the costs of the trip, which for us low cost travelers is essential to have the best at the lowest cost ... Happy holidays in Salento!
