Last week I was out and about with Zuegg for the campaigns of Avellino: a short but intense journey made up of people, territory and history. I have not visited any monument, church or historical building: I have been around fields, factories and among the people. I listened, tasted and laughed with the simplicity and genuineness that only field life can give you: on the other hand, Zuegg's slogan is “Passion for fruit, love for life”.
Zuegg: a story of passion and love for fruit
I had the opportunity, in these two days, to spend a lot of time talking with the Mr. Oswald Zuegg, the current Zeus of jams: a simple, polite and friendly person, a gentleman of other times: just listen to him to understand how much love he dedicates himself every day to his company and to the workers who collaborate with them.
Zuegg was born in Adige wool (South Tyrol) at the end of the XNUMXth century as family business: in 1890 it then became the artisan enterprise of Karl Zuegg, but success came only after World War II: Fruttino quickly became the snack for all children, together with fruit juices and jams. Zuegg's second great success came when he introduced an innovative aseptic packaging line of polylaminate frit juices, better known as Tetrapak. At the basis of so much respect is the respect for tradition and the safeguarding of natural values of fruit: values that were also exported to the Luogosano plant in the province of Avellino, opened in 1985.
Zuegg today
Zuegg currently has 541 employees spread across 6 factories (the last one was opened only three years ago in Russia). The company remains united on a single mission "Passion for fruit, love for life": the synthesis of the expectation that consumers of Zuegg products have and the type of products that Zuegg wants to give them. As?
- attention to product quality, both in the selection of raw materials and during processing.
- choose products with a short supply chain
- respect the environment by preventing, controlling and reducing environmental impacts.
Zuegg to Luogosano (Av)
Zuegg is at the constant search for territories where the direct supply of raw materials is possible: Luogosano is one of these territories, because it is completely surrounded by plots of land where excellent orchards and prestigious varieties are cultivated. During my trip I was able to taste the excellent apricots both the Portici species and the Pellicchiella species; what about the strawberries picked directly from the plants: the smell and taste they had were irresistible.
Zuegg has been working with Irpinia for almost 30 years and with excellent results: there are fruit species that have been planted for years, but also species that are being tested as in the case of Williams pears. The Irpinia paradox is that Zuegg is giving work by acquiring the territories of the farmers, the same ones who lost their jobs following the bankruptcy of the Iribus company.
Zuegg for travelers
The Zuegg product line is great for all avid travelers like us. First of all all of them the lines are packaged with practical materials and useful for both transport and storage: a fundamental element for all those people who travel and who find themselves making and unpacking the suitcase in a very short time and with many things. Furthermore, the quality of the products chosen for the production of juices and jams is exceptional from the first to the last sip.
