It is now known that even having a coffee in full center in Florence it can become a luxury that not everyone can afford and the same goes for ice-cream shop. It is not enough to avoid the main streets, because even moving to nearby districts, around Piazza della Signoria, a small cone, with a taste, costs € 2.50 (and the quality is not always the best).
This is why I prefer to take two steps towards Ponte alla Carraia, along the Lungarno degli Acciaiuoli on sunny days or looking at the chic shop windows of via dei Tornabuoni. Crossing Piazza Goldoni, you are on the edge of Borgo San Frediano and right in front of the bridge is my favorite ice cream shop, the La Carraia ice cream shop.
The place is small, but over the years, benches to sit on have appeared, both inside and outside. The owner is really kind and patient: there are many tastes and choosing is not easy. I recommend the Cookies, really delicious. The prices are honest: the small cone 1.50€.
The location makes the ice cream shop a good starting point for visiting one of the liveliest districts of Florence, San Frediano, full of art churches, typical trattorias, trendy bars, coffee shops and artisan shops.
