Gondolas for € 2 in Venice. It is not a hoax, but the truth about how to save money and do something really romantic with your other half in one of the most expensive cities in the world. Come and find out how.
Gondolas for € 2 in Venice, incredible but true! Do you want to be romantic but don't want to spend over € 100 to ride a gondola in Venice? Unless you really want to surprise your sweetheart with a romantic trip through the canals of the Venetian city, I recommend that you follow my advice. Less romantic perhaps, but it's always a gondola.
I've always known that to go for a gondola ride in Venice, I had to shell out a lot of money, so I always avoided putting myself in complicated situations alone. It is certainly not the first time that we have heard of some scam of gondoliers who "try" and leave the guests in the gondola until the desired price is reached. To tell the truth, I saw this thing done by camel drivers, who in Egypt took tourists "hostage", attracting them first with a low price and then getting what they wanted to get them off.
Obviously I'm not saying that all gondoliers are of this kind, God forbid. There are honest and dishonest people in all professions, and even in this one.
The last time I went to Venice, in February 2013, I changed my mind when I saw this price: “2 € for a gondola ride”. Be careful, don't get hot right away. I'm not talking about a romantic gondola ride, complete with a cover, violinist and red roses, but a short crossing of the Venetian canal.
Too unromantic for you and your significant other? Well, know that by doing so you will save a lot - if you really care about this gondola ride - and with the leftover money you can enjoy a nice dinner by candlelight, or treat yourself to an extra night in one of the most romantic cities in the world.
The 2 € gondola is therefore only the one that makes you cross the Grand Canal, and not the one that makes you do the tour in the middle of the canals, but the price is really affordable. Locals and Venetian citizens pay only € 0,70 for the crossing while tourists pay € 2. Even if until a few years ago the cost was 0,50 euros for everyone, tourists and locals. A price that seems to have risen dramatically in a very short time, but that Venice is one of the most expensive cities in the world, it is not really a novelty.
Da where do the gondolas leave? From San Marco, impossible not to see them. But also on the other side of the canal, from the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute. So what do you say? Worth trying? In my opinion for two euros yes. Ah, remember that service hours go from the 9 14, no sunset for the most romantic, but given the almost ridiculous price you can also invent a surprise to give during the crossing, to make your holiday in Venice truly unforgettable.
