A Riolo Terme Samhain is celebrated, Celtic New Year, according to rites and cultures of the Ancient Romagna, that's why it is so well known and so popular.
Vicino a Faenza, and precisely in the town of Riolo Terme, this event proposes the rites, the masks, the ritual eating, the fires and the culture of the Romagna of a very ancient time. In this area, in fact, according to the Celtic culture which was present here, the transition from October to November was considered the New Year. It was believed that the doors to the world of the dead would open and the dead would return to earth to "put everything back in place" after the conclusion of the agricultural production cycle and thus prepare the next.
To revive this ancient and fascinating reality in Riolo Terme, thanks to the local Pro Loco and the Municipal Administration, on the night of 31 October (from 18 pm) the night of Halloween - Samhain Celtic New Year takes place.
Between music and fireworks, from sunset until dawn the historic center comes alive from 18 pm, turning into a Celtic village, between games, dances, lighting of sacred fires and rites officiated by the druids, scenes of daily life. They will also open the market with products from the countryside and other genres strictly linked to the Celtic theme and refreshment points where possible taste refined dishes. At 20 pm the shows will begin with fire juggling, evocative battles and challenges of knights of arms. Parades of figures (monsters, great wizards, witches) will involve the public who will become an integral and active part of the party.
The final clash between the knights of Good and the forces of Evil, with the final burning of the huge demon and the explosion from the central Rocca of the town of fireworks that will illuminate the sky with multicolored colors.
