Low cost skiing a few tens of kilometers from Rimini? It can!
We are on December 3rd and last night the first snow has already fallen on Monte Carpegna. We are at an altitude of 1.400 meters above sea level, nothing comparable to The Dolomites, but if this year your budget is low and you can't help but do some descents, I recommend the lifts of Eremo Monte Carpegna. The ski resort is 42 kilometers from Rimini and in the last two years it has undergone a new restyling with a new chairlift, new snow cats and new artificial snow cannons. With just 5 euros you can go skiing and in less than an hour you will be on the slopes.
On the website of the station you can update, thanks to the webcam, on the snow cover situation, the weather conditions, the situation of the roads, the layout of the slopes, where to rent skis. In the middle of the slopes you will also find the Eremo Refuge, a totally wooden diner where you can find everything in full mountain style. Obviously the culinary traditions of the place are the masters.
The peculiarity is the night. By leaving your email and mobile number you will be updated on the opening of the slopes at night. Skiing at night is a priceless emotion for snow lovers like me and on certain winter evenings, driving on the Adriatic highway in Rimini, it is possible to see the illuminated slopes of the Carpegna.
My advice is to go there on a weekday as at the weekend the slopes are stormed and parking becomes difficult despite the large square attached to the slopes. But if you plan to go there on the weekend, leave early, very early. I suggest you take the Statale Marecchiese (SS258) up to Pietracuta, then turn for San Leo and Villagrande.
