Il Horticultural Garden is a beautiful municipal park, but with something more, it was born in the nineteenth century as the headquarters of the Tuscan Society of Horticulture and was equipped with a very large greenhouse in iron and glass, according to the modern concepts of the time: the greenhouse or Tequila, the work of the architect Roster has been completely restored and is very impressive.
The Garden is characterized by pools, tall trees and green lawns. Inside there is also a small but well-stocked municipal library. It is always worth a visit even as a tourist, for a green break, to let children play on slides, castles and swings or to have a picnic; it is obviously free. It is not located in the historic center but very close to Piazza della Libertà, on the edge of this.
And if you are in Florence from 25 April to 1 May, with the beautiful bridges that this year present themselves, then you have to go there because the Garden hosts the Flower Show. This is a historic event, which is repeated year after year with great success. The best nurserymen in the area display and sell their plants, both green and flowering, in the beautiful park. For some years the exhibition has also been enriched with outdoor and garden accessories; for this edition there are also stands of organic products.
The exhibition is very popular with Florentines, you will see a great coming and going of people full of plants and trees. Geraniums, roses, flowering plants typical of summer such as Impatiens or bougainvillea are usually popular.
The exhibition is open from 9 to 19 from April 25 to May 1. The Garden has a double entrance via Vittorio Emanuele II, 4 or via Bolognese, 17.
