Spring has broken out in The Diacci, the refuge nestled in the green of the Apennines Tuscan-Romagnolo, the rhythms of hospitality have resumed the rhythm.
Frequented by groups, trekkers, cyclists, it is truly an interesting proposal: first of all why walk it is the cheapest thing in the world and then because the environment here - we are at Step of the Glue in the Palazzuolo sul Senio area - it is beautiful and intact.
The area straddles the Tuscan Mugello and Romagna. Walkers come from both sides. Rifugio I Diacci is part of a circuit called Rifugi del Mugello and is a large and ancient farmhouse completely restored respecting its nature. The managers are passionate people who have spent a lot of time and work there and now the refuge can boast a good level of hospitality. The rooms they are double, quadruple or multi-bed, with bathroom, furnished with a rustic and essential setting at the same time. The common areas invite to socialize, the dining room with large cypress tables accommodates 60 diners, the tavern with a large fireplace has a bar and relaxation area for evenings with friends. The open space in front of the house is a large and cool yard for the summer.
But the hospitality formulas are different: in addition to the main house, I Diacci is made up of barn, a large room with two dormitories with bunk beds for groups, del bivouac available when the refuge is closed (the managers are there only on weekends) and the pratone below the house, suitable for curtains and very popular eg. by scout groups.
To eat with friends, the possibilities are for lunch or dinner. Local specialties are the famous Mugello tortelli, seasoned with various sauces. Walkers will also find many different types of sweets and puddings, imaginatively prepared by the cook, half Italian and half Dutch. Those who stay overnight can take advantage of the dinner using the half board formula (45 euros each for adults, 35 euros for children). Otherwise you can only stay overnight in the house, for 25 euros.
All around hiking trails at various levels of difficulty, silence (mobile phones do not take), absolutely intact nature: the refuge can only be reached on foot, along a dirt road for just over 2 km. Or it can be reached from other paths, coming from nearby Moscheta, or from Palazzuolo. The stream flows downstream of the refuge Rovigo, from the purest waters, which forms beautiful pools of inviting water in the summer heat.
The I Diacci refuge has a website www.rifugimugello.it where you can also study all the walking itineraries proposed.
