Today I want to talk to you about Valnerina, an area in the southern part ofUmbria perched on the Apennines. I am particularly fond of this area which I consider to be one of the most authentic and, let me say, wildest in my region.
Every season is the right one to visit it… in winter never fails INFO and day or night snowshoe hikes are organized, ending with lunches or dinners based on local specialties (not really light, but ideal for recovering lost strength;)); in spring and summer you can have fun doing Rafting along the steep banks of the Nera river or get excited by the spectacle offered by the Fioritura di Castelluccio di Norcia in June. Furthermore, all year round you can go trekking in the many marked trails.
But it is in the month of January that the Valnerina is a destination not to be missed for those who want to get closer to its culture, getting to know its soul still rooted in ancient traditions. The key date is !, day in which it is celebrated Sant'Antonio Abate protector of animals, when very ancient celebrations and feasts are organized in the municipalities of Valnerina (Cascia, Vallo di Nero, Preci, Monteleone di Spoleto, Scheggino).
The event that attracts thousands of visitors every year is a Cascia where, only for this occasion, the “Lambs auction” is organized, where animals offered by the owners of flocks are auctioned, which are still numerous here. Another appointment that I point out is the one scheduled for Sunday January 20, also in Cascia, for the 37th interregional review of the Pasquarelle, one of the oldest and most popular traditional music festivals in the region that welcomes 30 musical groups from Umbria, Marche, Lazio and Abruzzo who will compete to the rhythm of accordion and accordion! To try at least once!
