La Limonaia in Rome, eat pizza in a cozy place

I have to tell the truth The Limonaia of Rome I was not struck by his pizza, but by the location and the environment. La Limonaia is located in via Spallanzani 1 in a beautiful building: Villa Torlonia.

It is also interesting to know the history of the place which in the XNUMXs became the official residence of Benito Mussolini who paid a symbolic annual rent of a lira. Mussolini and Prince Torlonia built a shelter against bombing in the Jewish catacombs that were located under the villa. Fortunately, in the following years the Villa was bought by the Municipality of Rome which made one public park.

La Limonaia is quite large, the interior has a very high ceiling, colored chairs and glasses and an excellent menu even if a little expensive: a elaborate pizza is about 10 €. The exterior is divided into two gardens even though it was raining the night I went so I couldn't explore them.

Among the pizzas I tried 3, as you can see from the photo :) La Limonaia made with courgettes and raw ham, a pizza gorgonzola and speck and a pizza radicchio and provolone. The pizzas are definitely good even if not the Roman classics because they are not low but a little above average in terms of height.

The only drawback in my view it is the staff. Very kind and attentive to details, but… too much. In one room there were at least a dozen waiters for 50 seats. To tell the truth I don't know the figures but the feeling was that of being surrounded by waiters that to be honest they had nothing to do. If that's okay with them :)
