Discovering an enchanted place on the right bank of the Po River in Turin: events, dinners, workshops: many activities to get closer to Japan.
For an authentic approach to the Japanese culture, in Turin there is aCultural Association that you cannot help but visit if you too are a lover of the Land of the Rising Sun.
Where is Miyabi
I'm talking about Miyabi, in Via Ferdinando Bonsignore 8, just below the Great Mother of God Church - one of the symbols of Turin - near the right bank of the Po river.
The location is truly extraordinary, whatever time you approach this neighborhood, you will be struck by the lights, the atmosphere and the peculiarity of its alleys. You will feel like you are walking in an elegant and dreamy small town outside Turin: the river that flows nearby, the noises of Piazza Vittorio in the distance, the hills that scan the city above.
At Miyabi you can undoubtedly enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine, but also take part in an evening-event, such as an exhibition or sign up for a course. The offers are numerous and are periodically renewed.
Miyabi's kitchen
Miyabi's chef is called Tezuka Masanori. Here are some of the restaurant's highlights: fine tuna, scallops that come from Hokkaido, high quality sake, okonomiyaki, ramen, absolutely fresh wasabi, great freshly brewed green tea, exquisite artisan desserts.
At Miyabi's there are always a couple of dishes of the day off the menu that will be presented to you with great skill by the dining room staff. The welcome is truly exceptional, in traditional clothes obviously: as already mentioned, the atmosphere is certainly a very important factor for this splendid venue and will make your visit even more special.
At Miyabi you can certainly enjoy excellent sushi (especially nigiri), but my advice is to focus on the entire offer: there are typical Japanese dishes and combinations almost always neglected by the restaurants that Italy has known so far.
Miyabi's Okonomiyaki
I personally enjoyed okonomiyaki as good as the ones eaten in Tokyo or Kyoto. It is a sweet and sour dish that is reminiscent of the American pancake only in shape.
There are many variations, it is said that the best is cooked in Kansai region, so much so that okonomiyaki is often called the “Osaka pizza”.
Sukiyaki: specialties to taste
Sukiyaki is another specialty to try: thin slices of beef, tofu, konnyaku, negi (spring onion), Chinese cabbage, and enoki mushrooms. In Japan it is best enjoyed on the coldest days of the year or during the New Year's Eve dinner.
The ingredients are boiled very slowly in a low iron pot along with the soy sauce, sugar and mirin. Beaten eggs - served in a small bowl - accompany this unique meal. It is a fairly refined dish, the ingredients are really delicious, therefore it cannot be low-cost. But the satisfaction will be really great.
The philosophy of the association
Miyabi's purpose is precisely to spread Japanese culture, starting right from washoku: the cuisine recognized as Unesco heritage.
Booking is absolutely recommended, for contacts and lots of additional information, you can visit the site.
Miyabi is open from Monday to Sunday, from 19pm to 00pm.
Closed on Tuesday. Ready for a Japanese-style evening?
