Let's start with one of the most loved dishes by Neapolitans: Pizza. In Naples it is very difficult to find a pizzeria that does not produce a good pizza, for this reason I only list the t.
Where to eat - Pizzerias
Nicola and Rossella: 1. Il Pizzaiolo of the President: is the famous pizzeria where during the G7 (1994) went to eat the then President of the United States Bill Clinton. The pizza is delicious but the real specialty of the house is the fry, you eat really good arancini, crocché and omelettes. Average price: 8 € (pizza + drink)
2. Pizzeria Starita: this pizzeria has become famous because it appears in the film The gold of Naples where Sophia Loren plays the role of a beautiful pizza chef. Average price: 8 € (pizza + drink)
3. Pizzeria Pellone: Pizza very good ma not very digestible. Specialty of the house: fried pizza and baked stuffing. Average price: 9 / 10 euro(pizza + drink)
4. By Michele: the only two pizzas out of the oven are there daisy and seafaring, really good. A bit spartan place but worth it. It was (and perhaps still is) the favorite pizzeria of Diego Armando Maradona. Via Cesare Sersale 1/3, corner with via Colletta.
5. Pizzeria Sorbillo: another excellent pizzeria that produces delicious pizzas. It is very crowded like the Da Michele pizzeria. (Via dei Tribunali, 32) Average price: 7 € (pizza + drink).
After having listed the pizzerias, let's move on to some trattorias / inns where to eat well at affordable prices. Here, too, the same speech made above applies, that is list just some of them (in Naples you can eat well a little everywhere).
Where to eat - Trattorias
1. Trattoria da Nennella: placed in the middle of the Spanish neighborhoods the main dishes of the local tradition are eaten at very low prices. The quality / price ratio is very high. Average price: 11 / 12 euro (first course + second course + drink) (Vico Lungo Teatro Nuovo 103/105).
2. Osteria della Mattonella: also this place, like the previous one, is an excellent place to savor traditional Neapolitan dishes (but not only). It is a local in family run (I said everything). The house specialty is Pasta and beans. Average price: 16 € (first course + second course + drink) (Via Nicotera).
Where to eat - Patisseries Now after pizza and lunch (or dinner) it's up to you to dessert :-D What's better than delicious Baba and many other types of sweets (both from the Neapolitan tradition and not) from Scaturchio pastry? It is a historic pastry shop in Naples, a real institution in the city. It is located in the very central Piazza San Domenico Maggiore. (Sede Unica, in the city there are several pastry shops with the same name, they are homonyms).
Another historic pastry shop is the Carraturo pastry which has been making sweets since 1837. House specialties:
sfogliatelle and babà (Via Casanova, 87).
Annalisa - Antica Pizzeria Da Michele since 1870: a milestone of Naples. You have to arm yourself with patience because there is there for lunch and dinner fila to enter. However, the wait is rightly rewarded and when your turn finally comes you actually have the feeling of being in a sacred temple of pizza.
The environment is certainly not refined, there are marble tables and it can happen to sit next to strangers. The founder Michele Condurro chose not to spoil the pizza with strange ingredients (which they hurt the stomach and pockets, as mentioned in a press inside the restaurant) because the real pizzas are only margherita and marinara.
The choice concerns only the size and amount of mozzarella. Prices are low, you don't pay neither covered nor service. Absolutely to try for those who want to taste the real pizza of Naples.
Pizzeria da Michele is also the pizzeria you see in the film Eat, Pray and Love.
The mini guide of Naples is made in collaboration with Nicola and Rossella di Low Cost Travelers e Annalisa.
