Treno Natura, by steam train through Tuscany, starting from Siena and crossing villages and towns.
The beauty of the Tuscan landscape it is known all over the world and it is no coincidence that millions of tourists, Italians and foreigners, each year choose this region as their holiday destination. Whether you are a lover of wine, its gastronomic specialties, its medieval villages or its suggestive views, Tuscany is able to offer you the best and suitable solution for you to fully enjoy this land.
But have you ever thought of traveling on board a steam train or a littorina? Are you ready to take a step back in time? Well yes this is also possible and especially in the province of Siena. The Nature train, or excursions on a vintage train that will take you to discover the Sienese territory in an unusual and slower way, with intermediate stops to also participate in country events and festivals, or visit wineries and make excursions.
There are twenty appointments already scheduled and always in program from March to December, of which fifteen with the steam train and five on a littorina. All of this naturally takes place not on the main lines of the Italian railway network but on those secondary lines and those abandoned which today allow you to enjoy the surrounding landscape in a decidedly slow way.
So imagine getting on a vintage steam train puffing up and down, sitting inside carriages with seats still in wood, a guaranteed emotion for adults and especially children.
All scheduled excursions start at Siena station and they always reach minor stations that keep their romantic charm unchanged. Between villages which are reached there is for example Asciano, or San Giovanni d'Asso which in November presents its own festival dedicated to the white truffle of the Crete Senesi, and again Buonconvento, a small village in the Val d'Arbia at the gates of the splendid Val d'Orcia. But we cannot forget Torrenieri, San Quirico d'Orcia, Chiusi or Pienza and Montalcino, famous centers the first for cheese and the second for the legendary Brunello wine.
Looking at the program, I would therefore invite you to take a look at the next September excursions by steam train. The September 27th next starting from Siena you will arrive in Buonconvento on the occasion of the Val d'Arbia festival. But if you want to choose the littorina route instead, the September 6th next we will reach Chiusi for the feast of the Ruzzi della Conca, while the September 13th the trip has as its object the Crete Senesi and the Val d'Orcia where stops will be made in predetermined panoramic points.
Not only is it an opportunity for an unusual day trip but it is a way to participate in the maintenance of a railway route that is not wrong to count among the pearls of Italian and Tuscan industrial archeology. The places in each excursion are limited and children up to 10 years do not pay. But for the costs of each excursion and the calendar of planned excursions take a look at program .
