Open one library in a city where they have now remained, in the center of Firenze, only two very large bookstores of great publishers is a courageous action. The bookshop is then located in an area of the first suburbs, close to the center and on a traffic and travel route, but still out of the way. Anyway, the library has only one theme: the journey. And here, since we are on a portal dedicated to travel, we all know how technological tools are gaining ever greater consensus. The charm of On the Road (the name of the library in question), however, is immediately noticeable, as soon as you cross the threshold.
The ethnic furniture is refined and reproduces something halfway between a Berber tent and a living room; the books are arranged along the walls on bookcases representing the five continents. There are tourist guides and novels, according to the idea of a book that guides you on your journey and a book that accompanies you to or on the journey.
Among the guides, in addition to the beloved Lonely Planet and Routard, also the Polaris, of a Mugello publishing house that boasts a vast catalog. Particular attention to the more difficult and less "told" continents such as Africa. The presence of novels accompanies every continent, with native authors or travelers who have told about those lands; in the USA section a lot of Kerouac, On the road indeed.
At the base of this space of books there is a vaguely sentimental and very profound way of understanding the journey, which intends the journey as knowledge and deepening of worlds and cultures.
The specialization of this library also includes Geographic maps, from Michelin to those produced by the Istituto Geografico Militare, which is based in Florence, hiking maps for trekking, cycling and mountain tours. CAI cards will also be available soon.
Martina, the owner, gave the right mood to the environment and the expository sense of the books; he also chooses objects that come from afar and that are small, original gift ideas; organizes events and exhibitions in the spaces of its bookshop, welcomes everyone with a smile and gives personalized advice, for an informed purchase. A great experience this On the Road to which we wish the best of luck!
On the Road is located in Florence, in via Vittorio Emanuele 32 ar (one side of the more famous piazza Giorgini).
