If you find yourself in Umbria, in Zone Trasimeno, highly recommend one trip to Polvese Island one of the three islands (together with the Maggiore and the Minore) located in the fourth lake of Italy. To reach it you start from the San Feliciano pier, a fraction of the municipality of Magione, where the ferries of Umbria Mobilità which, at the modest sum of 5,20€, make a round trip service from the island in just 10 minutes.
The Polvese Island is inserted inside the Park of Lake Trasimeno, has an extension of 70 hectares and is a place of naturalistic interest thanks to the presence of some animals (fox, stone marten, hare) and numerous varieties of birds (herons, mallards, grebes).
In summer it is the ideal place to spend a day of tranquility or have fun with the whole family. A stop in beach with a swim in the waters of Trasimeno (this is certainly the cleanest point), a picnic in the shady holm oak wood, a visit to the Garden of Aquatic Plants with water lilies, cuttings, cattails and lotus flowers are just some of the activities you can do here.
In the autumn and winter months, however, in addition to relaxing walks along the perimeter of the island, surrounded by the suggestive lake landscape, you can birdwatching.
