Vacation with the table under your arm? Porto Pollo it's for you!
Porto Pollo is located in the territory of Palau, north Sardinia and it is probably the best known destination for those who practice windsurfing, surfing and kiting and choose Sardinia as their holiday destination.
A spectacular place with many features ideal both for those who are already experienced and for those who decide to learn to surf on vacation.
The wind guarantee
Its strong point is its natural conformation: two long beaches that meet forming an isthmus that connects theGull Island.
The beaches are exposed to different winds so, depending on where the wind blows, there is always a suitable spot for training.
The beaches (Porto Puddu and Liscia beach) are long, wide with coarse-grained sand, golden and attractive. L'water is crystal clear and in the background enchanting views and Mediterranean scrub.
No problem for beginners: the two seas are enclosed by bays, so you can practice sports safely, schools offer a rescue service by rubber dinghy and you don't feel “abandoned” in the waves.
For the experts, Daniele assures me who works at Sporting Club Sardinia, the school offers the best equipment of the year, new boards and competent assistance.
Porto Pollo is now a historic destination, lived by first surfers in the 80s, which, over time, has developed around these disciplines. Today there are several schools and there are sailing, sup (stand up paddle), kite, surfing and windsurfing courses, equipment rental services and many accommodation facilities. There is the Isola dei Gabbiani camping, many rental houses and residences all dedicated to those who prefer a sporting holiday. There is no shortage of bars and small restaurants on the beach, nightlife with concerts and DJ sets, to have fun after the day in the waves.
In short, if you are with friends or family and not everyone plays sports, here you can combine training with a comfortable and relaxing day on the beach!
The season starts in April and ends in October, although in winter you can see many sails on the horizon. Here the atmosphere is international and relaxed, with sportsmen coming from all over the world; Italian prefers the central months of summer, while German and Swiss are spoken throughout the year. There is no shortage of international competitions: Porto Smooth hosted the Wind Techno Cup, while Porto Pollo the World Kite League final.
Surfing in Sardinia
In Gallura there are notable commercials for the more experienced like Capo Testa in Santa Teresa and all the west beaches.
In Sardinia there are other dream beaches known for water sports. Surfers meet in Capo Mannu (Oristano), a small pearl exposed to many winds, especially the mistral, the northern part of the wonderful Sinis peninsula.
Chia instead is the most popular destination in the south with spectacular waves and a wonderful surrounding landscape.
On the east coast, on the other hand, there is San Teodoro and its incomparable beach of La Cinta, where the mistral blows and the sirocco that loads the waves to be tamed.
