Return of the Geminids, with the nose up in December

Return of the Geminids, with the nose up in December

2013 was a year full of astronomical events of all importance, most recently - and certainly not least - we had a rare hybrid solar eclipse, unfortunately not very visible in central Europe but able to leave those who were in the Atlantic areas or Africa speechless.

Traveling in space is not yet affordable for mere mortals, but getting close is indeed! Thanks to astronomical observations in fact, it is possible to see the sky up close and enjoy the wonders it offers us in the various phases of the moon, during the alignments of the planets or in the months of concentration of shooting stars.

Il month of December has an event not to be missed: the passage of the comet of Ison, which month was more appropriate?

And, thus, waiting for the Christmas between markets, typical products, festive arrangements and holiday projects let's reserve some time (day or night makes little difference because she is there, always passing above us) to throw our eyes to the sky: to make everything more magical there will be also the return of the Geminids, shooting stars arriving in mid-December, which will allow us to make some wishes!

Italian astronomical observatories open to the public give us help to take a dip in the galaxy, it is often enough to contact them to book a free visit, sometimes they offer us guided introductory tours or evenings dedicated to specific themes. In our country there is a well-branched scientific network available to fill doubts and satisfy curiosity.

Throughout the Northeastern Piedmont, the only astronomical observatory present is the Galileo Galilei of Suno (NO), open every first and third Wednesday of the month, or by appointment. It stands isolated, on a hill used for wine cultivation which, moreover, is worth a visit for long walks immersed in nature with a view of the Monte Rosa chain.

For all other areas of Italy it is possible to map the closest and take an unusual trip.
