During the summer months applying moisturizing products such as creams, butters and oils becomes almost impossible for many, discouraged by the perennial sensation of humidity, the heaviness of the products and the lack of time and will. However our skin still needs to be hydrated and refreshed in summer, which is why, rather than using moisturizing products, you should choose textures that are as light and fresh as possible. This doesn't mean having to buy other cosmetic products or having to spend a lot more money, it just means recognize what our skin needs and find the right combination of substances that hydrate but with the right lightness.
Thanks to a plant cosmetics course organized by the Linfa di Bisceglie herbalist's shop that I attended, I found the right product for summer hydration, a cheap cosmetic, very easy to do, functional and extremely versatile, for this very reason very suitable for travel. It is a do-it-yourself cream, nothing complicated, indeed you will be amazed by its extreme simplicity and you may wonder why you never thought about it. There is no need for large tools or particular skills, all you need are: an empty jar where you can mix the ingredients and that contains your finished product (obviously you can also do it in a container and then put it in others, you see based on how much cream you want to produce), aaloe vera at least 95% pure and an oil of your choice, possibly jojoba, argan or almond oil because they are the oils that are best absorbed, but nobody forbids you to use extra virgin olive oil, rice, sunflower, coconut, castor oil, in short, what you prefer or want to finish, no one forbids you to use different types of oils and make a mixture of your favorites.
All you have to do is simply mix well 30 grams of aloe gel and 1 tablespoon of oil, if we want to get a cream more suitable for the face, two tablespoons of oil if we want to get one for the body or in any case a multipurpose. Obviously, proportion the amount just described based on how much cream you want to make, I recommend you base yourself on this recipe before trying large quantities to find the consistency you prefer. For example, based on my needs, I opted for a middle ground, creating one suitable for both face and body, precisely because I wanted an extremely multipurpose product. The only care is to have patience in mixing your mixture as best as possible so that the two ingredients do not separate and remain well blended. This compound is perfect for moisturizing and refreshing the skin, yes absorbs very easily, it is not greasy and does not need to be rinsed nor will it leave you any annoying sensation on the skin, you can even give up specific products for insect bites.
Mine advice is to try it instead of the classic face cream in summer, for the body after a shower and especially as an after-sun, if you have the possibility to keep it in the fridge it will amaze you. This product cannot replace a cream with spf so it is not ideal as a protective for the sea, but for everything else it is perfect! Containing a large part of aloe, it is perfect for all uses to which aloe lends itself, uses that I have already described to you in a specific post on aloe gel (link), but since there is also an oil you can take advantage of a also emmoliente power. As for conservation, don't worry, you can use it for a long time, there is no need to finish it within a very short time. One last piece of advice I would like to give you is this: if you want to keep the cream, or make another one even for the colder seasons, avoid using coconut oil as at lower temperatures it densifies becoming practically a butter, this will cause it to separate from the aloe gel making the cream non-homogeneous.
If you want to use it for the summer, coconut oil will do just fine. Remember that the color and consistency of the cream changes according to the oil you will use, normally it is a semi-transparent white but it depends, for example if you use olive oil it could turn yellow / green. Have fun creating your own cream and let us know how you found it.
