Tavolara: an uncontaminated place, far from modernity, where you can go diving, trekking and special dinners with a view. Ready to reach one of the most beautiful islands in Sardinia?
It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful islands in Sardinia Tavolara. An uncontaminated place far from modernity that can be visited in just one day.
Tavolara is an island located in the northern part of Sardinia and is part of theProtected Marine Area of Punta Coda Cavallo.
How to reach the island
To reach the island of Tavolara it is necessary to go to one of the following ports:
Porto San Paolo: from here it takes 10/15 minutes of navigation, it is therefore the closest and is located a few km from San Teodoro. In this port, visitors can take a ferry with daily departures every 30 minutes or rent a private boat to have maximum freedom of time and movement.
Olbia or Golfo Aranci: they are the two most distant ports and from here it takes about 1 hour of navigation to reach Tavolara. They are undoubtedly more comfortable and practical for those arriving from the southern part of Sardinia.
What to see in Tavolara
Despite being a small island, it is possible to do many activities and see many points of historical and cultural interest.
1. Diving - The Grottone, Archetto, Occhio di Dio, Cala Cicale and the Secca dell'Elefante are the most famous spots for diving. Here, among groupers, moray eels and barracudas, the wreck of the San Giuseppe, a motor ship sunk in 1949, appears.
2. Trekking - To be carried out only with an authorized guide, because the place is a protected area, but also because the territory inside cannot be explored without the consent of the current family that owns the island. The highest peak is Punta Cannone and reaches 565 meters.
3. Royal Cemetery - Tavolara was recognized, directly by Queen Victoria of England, as the smallest kingdom in the world. Along the path leading to the cemetery, there are information panels that tell the story of the royal family.
4. Dinner with a view - As soon as you land in Tavolara you will find two small restaurants run by the "royal family" offering fish dishes and a spectacular view. Here it is very suggestive to take a walk in the moonlight, even if it is not possible to stay asleep, as there are no accommodation facilities.
