Buonconsiglio Castle in Trento, to be seen absolutely perhaps with the Trento Rovereto Card, during a trip to the city of Trento or during the Christmas Markets.
If you have one scheduled trip to Trento don't miss the nice complex Buonconsiglio Castle. It is in a fairly central position in the city and represents an important monument, which in the course of five centuries from the thirteenth to the end of the eighteenth was the residence of the bishops of Trento.
From an architectural point of view, the complex is the result of the combination of buildings erected at different times, but well blended; the oldest part is called Castelvecchio, the more elegant the Magno Palazzo. Inside it collects various provincial collections of Egyptian finds, statues and stone artefacts, beautiful majolica stoves. But the monumental rooms are impressive, of different styles, with richly frescoed and decorated walls and ceilings. Magnificent Eagle Tower, with a cycle of frescoes in the international Gothic style.
The Trentino Bishops lived in the Castle until early nineteenth century, then it became a barracks; and it is quite impressive to enter the room where Cesare Battisti was sentenced to death, while at the foot of the high walls of the castle he was executed. The entrance to the Castle costs 8 euros, but there are many possibilities of reduction; it is possible to buy cumulative tickets with other Trentino castles.
After the visit, which is quite long for the many salons to see, I recommend that you go down to the Cafeteria located below, in the cellar / Keller space for a snack: either a snack based on Apfelstrudel or Zelten, or a lunch fast with i traditional dishes. You will find Spätzle, Goulash, pork knuckle. Aperitifs and wines by the glass, at modest prices - 7 euros a first course - and served with kindness and cheerfulness, both in the outdoor tables and in the internal rooms.
