The most beautiful beaches of Lampedusa

The most beautiful beaches of Lampedusa according to a person's experience, read the post and plan your trip to Sicily.

The small island of Lampedusa it has a heritage of beaches of dazzling beauty. The sea that bathes it is very clear, rich in fish and largely protected by a nature reserve. The island is made of limestone, light in color, and this means that the seabed is of an incredible range of blue, while the beaches are white.

Even the most crowded places have the charm of the tropical sea: I have not been to the Tropics or to the Maldives, but between Greece, Sardinia and various islands I have a certain experience of the sea. Lampedusa's is incredibly beautiful and clear, and the presence of fish is the extra touch that makes every swim an experience. Leaving without a mask and snorkel is a crime: snorkeling gives you wonderful experiences. On the port they also sell dolphin and whale watching tours, honestly I have not experienced it but it seems that above all dolphins are very present.

To reach the beaches you can use your own means (see article Lampedusa, how to get around) as they are quite far from the town. The island is long and narrow and the two sides (north and south) are clearly distinguished by their conformation: while the part facing Italy has a high cliff overlooking the sea characterized by caves, the part facing Africa is opens in rocky and sandy coves, equipped or not, which are part of the Marine Protected Area which also includes Linosa and Lampione, the other two Pelagie. The area is protected for its particular marine habitat, but the most famous animal (which has also become the Logo of the island) is undoubtedly the Caretta Caretta turtle, which lays its eggs both on the other Pelagia, Linosa, and in Lampedusa, on the Rabbits Beach.

And this is the most beautiful beach, with white sand and come on shallow watersso much so that you can walk for a long time without having to swim. The beach is manned by Legambiente for the whole summer, precisely because in the evening the turtles could arrive and lay their eggs. One part of the beach is used for the installation of umbrellas (brought or rented on the street), the other half is only for hanging out the towel: but only from 8.30 to 19.30.

The beach is very crowded but very clean and free to enter; from the road, which remains at the top and where you park, you go down for about a quarter of an hour on foot. The view coming down is breathtaking, the sea of the rabbit beach has all the shades of blue. The islet in front of the beach, Isola dei Conigli, is uninhabited, boats have to turn offshore. By swimming a little you can reach the adjacent one Tabaccara, a rocky cove where the color of the sea water is indigo, light blue, transparent: there are no words.

In the protected area is also located Cala Pulcino, which can be reached on foot by walking for about 40 minutes in a gully; the beach is made of stones, the color of the seabed very similar to that of the Rabbits. It is necessary to bring water and food, because there are no places to refuel.

Cala Pulcino and Spiaggia dei Conigli are the farthest from the town: proceeding along the south coast, approaching the city is a succession of beautiful coves: there is Cala Galera, very green inland; Cala Greca, very white, which can be accessed on foot from Camping La Roccia; Cala Madonna, equipped with umbrellas and sunbeds; Cala Croce, partly sandy, partly rocky, with very clear waters. The rental of an umbrella and two sun loungers costs 15 euros per day, however unlike other bathing situations (here in Tuscany, for example) it is also possible to position yourself with your own equipment, if you find space.

The central Cala Guitgia it is fully equipped and with very clear sandy bottoms. The easternmost part of the island is where you will find Cala Maluk, Cala Francese. It is all made of sand Cala Pisa, very suitable for children, with the possibility of renting an umbrella; instead Cala Creta it is a spectacular descent into the sea of rock, as well as Cala Calandra.

All these beaches (except that of the Conigli) are reachable from the sea: on the port there are many boats that go around the island (or half a turn, depending on the weather conditions) taking bathers to the most beautiful and scenic spots; the tours last all day, cost between 30 and 40 euros per person, in some cases a fish lunch is also offered on board. If, on the other hand, you know how to orient yourself at sea, you can hire a boat for a day: here too the choice is wide. The price for the whole day is about 70 euros (up to 6 people) to which must be added the cost of fuel, particularly expensive on the island, about 2 euros per liter.

You can get close to the beaches, swim, watch the many species of fish, enter the caves. The north side of the island, very scenic with the stacks and its walls perpendicular to the sea, can only be reached with optimal weather conditions.
