La Maremma it is a fantastic destination for holidays and for spring bridges, because, beyond the fantastic sea, it offers many ideas for visits suitable for all tastes: nature and food and wine itineraries, art villages and courses full of particular shops where to shop. The wild and luxuriant nature is the most interesting aspect of the area, as it distinguishes the Maremma from the rest of Tuscany.
For this I recommend you to enjoy the many parks and gardens that you will find along the coast and in the hinterland. And if you are an art lover like me, the places that I will recommend will be able to combine the passion for greenery with that of the works of contemporary and extravagant artists. I will tell you which are the 3 most beautiful parks to visit in three different areas of the Maremma.
The first and most famous is obviously the Garden of the Tarot of Capalbio, right by the sea. It is located in a road, in the middle of the countryside and after a short walk you will be able to see color, color, color. The statues, inspired by the esoteric world of tarot cards, are gigantic concrete constructions covered with glass, mirrors and colored ceramics. The artist is Niki de Saint Phalle, married to Jean Tinguely, who created the so-called mécaniques, that is the moving parts of some works.
It was only finished in 1996 and you can also enter what Niki had built as his home, a huge sphinx. The rooms are all covered in mirrors and after a while you lose your orientation, as if you were in the attraction of the amusement park. However, the park is full of symbols, each tile tells a story through images and words.
The park is open from the 14.30 19.30, from April 15st to October XNUMXth, and the entrance ticket costs 12€. Children under 7 enter for free and it will be a real joy for them to immerse themselves in the psychedelic colors of Niki.
The other garden is located at seggiano, on the slopes of Monte Amiata, and was built by the Swiss Daniel Spoerri, from which it takes its name. The artist has been exhibiting statues and outdoor installations since 1996, which is why he gave the green space its name. Now the park, which is located on land indicated on the maps as "Paradise", houses the works of about 150 artists, including Arman, Staccioli and Neumann.
The park is open from Easter to mid-September, from the 10 20 and entry costs 10€, with the possibility of booking guided tours. A map will be able to guide you in the lush vegetation and tourists are advised to wear trekking shoes. Inside the park you can also eat, because there is a bar for quick snacks and a real Tuscan trattoria with a terrace, where you can also try tasting menus.
For those who want to try a different experience, there is also the possibility of staying overnight in the Daniel Spoerri Garden. There are 3 apartments with double bedrooms and the possibility of adding beds available to visitors, inside the rustic Tuscan style villa.
The last park is the least known, but also the most curious: it is the Garden of Sounds by Paul Fuchs. It is located near Montieri, in the locality They gasp, in the Maremma hinterland and extends for about two hectares. The sculptures are made of iron, copper and bronze and emit sound waves, which propagate according to the wind. There are also other buildings in stone and wood, more figurative.
The garden can be visited On appointment and it is a natural extension of the artist's house, in a very isolated area of the Maremma, where there is not even electricity.
