If you pass by Mantova you can not miss the Trattoria da Pepe in via S. Pietro, 2 Monzambano (MN). I went for lunch, after a mini-trip to Valeggio sul Mincio (to visit absolutely). Finding it is a bit of a challenge and the navigator will be very useful but it's worth it.
The environment is very rustic and homemade like all farms. There is no menu card (a small flaw for those who are a bit clumsy like me and will have to have the dishes repeated a dozen times: D) and the dishes are listed directly by the waiters.
THEappetizer it is based on vegetables, meats, cheeses and scones. I took some spaghetti with hare sauce (excellent), grilled meat and the Grandmother's cake (very good). The portions are generous and the dishes are really tasty. At the end of the meal they always serve grappas flavored with kiwi, apricot, peach and strawberry accompanied by gods cookies delicious and of the mustard homemade as tradition commands.
Reservation is required. The price was 19 € so I would say excellent quality / price ratio.
