A walk in Udine
From the esplanade of the Castle, at the top of the only hill in the city, you have a beautiful view of the roofs of the buildings while in the distance you can admire all the area of the Alps which form the natural border with theAustria and Slovenia.

Towards the historic center
Going down towards the historic center, you go along the Venetian-style Portico del Lippomano, you pass theArco Bollani designed by Palladio and you arrive in Piazza Libertà.
This square, nicknamed the most beautiful Venetian square on the mainland is characterized by the Portico of San Giovanni with the tower ofCentral clock, and the two moors at the top who strike the hours.
Other monuments and statues adorn the square in front, while in front is the Loggia del Lionello, in Venetian Gothic style and easily recognizable by the white and pink stones and marbles.
From the porch below it can be admired Via Mercatovecchio, one of the first commercial streets of Udine from the Middle Ages.

On one side of the square is the Church of St. James with its beautiful white facade embellished with a large clock and a balcony, from where Mass was once said.
The Udine Market
La Piazza XX Settembre, today it houses the market, but it was once the place where the palace of a powerful allied family in Venice stood. It too is surrounded by houses and buildings of very varied styles, including the Venetian house that brings back to the atmosphere of the lagoon city.
