Maybe there Valley of the Lakes (which takes the area north of Garda, also including the Cavedine and Toblino Lakes) is the least known and most neglected of the whole Trentino: there are no big centers, you don't ski, you don't swim… It is probably not one of those must-have destinations, which must be added to your collection and to be told to all your friends showing off the maximum pride.
In reality, something very close to the idea of a monument-attraction is also found here, and how! The Varone waterfalls, for example, in the homonymous village just a few km from Riva del Garda, are an extraordinary example of natural waterfalls admirable in our area, inserted in a park suitable for visitors of any age.
Toblino Castle, only one among the many of the place, is a rare example of a lake castle, perched on a very small peninsula, which in the past strongly accentuated its defensive function. Today the castle is used as a restaurant and is entirely privately owned.
Other reasons to spend at least a few days in the area are above all the landscape, particularly relaxing and pleasant, and suitable for walks and even more to tour on two wheels, for road and mountain biking, there is no shortage of cycle paths (they have even closed some small roads to use them for bicycles, so beware that not even the most up-to-date navigator knows and you could end up in them in the car, as happened to me!).
Furthermore, the kitchen of the place offers particularly interesting dishes, from the first with dumplings, strangolapreti and pasta with venison ragù, to second courses based on carne salada, all kinds of cuts and fish from the lake and river.
Two quick tips for eating and sleeping at one excellent value for money: sleep at Pietrarara B&B, with mountain bike rental included, and dinner by Cyprian in Calavino, also recommended in the Michelin guides but with surprising prices, will give you the measure of the pleasure that can be enjoyed in this area, thanks to the courtesy and professionalism of those who are there to serve you in the best way!
