Via dei Neri in Florence: the road to good low cost food

Eat well, spend little and stay in the center a Firenze it is not an impossible undertaking. Just go in via dei Neri, just behind Palazzo Vecchio, to be spoiled for choice and not that of the too high bill. It is a typical street in the historic center of Florence, with 2-3 storey historic buildings, a cobbled street and narrow sidewalks, but instead of shops of various kinds at street level it mainly houses trattorias, focaccerie, bakeries, pizzerias, even a burger shop (which uses only with Tuscan meat, they say) and then three goodies: the Antico Vinaio, the Prosciutteria and the Club del Gusto.

You will see them from afar due to the queue of people that arrive in the street at all hours of the day and even for dinner. The price is low, but don't think the quality is losing out: da Ancient Vinaio, in via del Neri 65, with 5 euros you get a focaccia so full that the external sides do not even match to die. Full of what? You can choose from the best Tuscan cheeses, meats and sauces and the possibilities are so many. With 3 euros instead take an equally well stuffed rosette. A glass of wine costs 2 euros, you can fill it yourself and consume it together with the sandwich sitting in the street in front of the restaurant, which is really a hole, in which there is just the counter, the owner (young and nice) and a couple of people.

At the Prosciutteria, at number 54, there is certainly more space: you can sit down and have your meal on the folding seats opposite the very long counter. Obviously there are hams, but also a wide choice of cheeses, mixed platters, savory and vegetable pies, homemade sauces, meatballs, the legendary tomato soup, etc. The prices are very honest: you are satisfied with less than 10 euros and we also miss a glass of Chianti.

Also Tripe and Paw: the Club del Gusto, at n.50, does not disappoint: in addition to what many call "the best lampredotto in Florence", you will find a good choice of first courses (at 5 euros) and second courses (at 8), salads and sandwiches ( a 4): the wine is straightforward, the portions are generous and the owner is nice: sit down, if you find a place, at one of the tables of the small restaurant and have a chat with the owner, once you find out you will definitely come back.

If you are looking for a place to eat comfortably seated after hours of walking go to the welcome restaurant, at the intersection of via della Mosca and via dei Neri: the cuisine is homemade and smells of Tuscany and the prices remain excellent: try the mixed croutons, pappa al pomodoro, bean and vegetable soup, ribollita and dishes grid. And there is also free wifi, which never hurts.
