In the heart of the Stelvio National Park, in Trentino, in the middle of the ski slopes is the The Squirrel Refuge, a great place to rest, eat, have a drink or stop for a snack. The refuge is located in 2000 meters and can be reached with the first cable car from Fonte Pejo.
The place is very nice, just redone, all in wood and with a splendid view. The girls who serve the tables are dressed in typical local clothes, long green skirts and white aprons and I don't tell you what food is. What I ate was delicious, a mix of appetizers with cold cuts and cheeses in which there was also the carne salada, a "raw" meat seasoned with salt. Also a nice rich dish with dumplings, polenta, cold cuts, sauerkraut, frankfurters and much more. I couldn't finish it because the dish was too rich. Finally, for those who have succeeded, I admit it, even if much desired maple trees, sweets.
Sacher, strudel and fruit tart for the more daring. A sweetness that I tasted only with the tip of the fork. Wine and water as drinks and final coffee so as not to miss anything. I have not tried the bombardino unfortunately, also because I had not skied: D but I really recommend it as a refuge e restaurant from the parts of Pejo.
