Five places to eat in Turin, to spend little and have different alternatives, places that are also attentive to vegan or vegetarian diets. Read the post and choose your restaurant.
For some years now, Torino it has lost its aura of a severe and austere city and tourists are also discovering what we in Turin already knew: even here we love hedonism and good food. But it is a good table that has learned the lesson of Slow Food, which loves 0 km ingredients and which defends traditional recipes, looking at them with a contemporary (and sometimes vegan) eye. THE new premises in Turin they are always attentive to the balance between healthy nutrition, tradition and the right relationship between quality and price. Here are a few idea for eating well (and healthy), live pleasant and informal atmospheres and don't spend too much.
1. M ** Bun
With its two bars in the center, we could define it as the Turin answer to McDonald's or the lesson of Slow Food applied to sandwiches. At M ** Bon, the menu follows the seasonality of the products. The hamburgers are strictly Piedmontese meat (you can even find the farmhouses where the cattle were raised on the menu). The ingredients of salads and soups are mainly regional and seasonal. The desserts, needless to say, follow the Piedmontese tradition. Try the fassone burgers and the trout burgers, don't miss the raw meat of fassone, a Piedmontese specialty (if you don't know which seasoning to consume it, there are the tasting dishes that bring together all the proposals), and the Molecola, the answer Piedmontese to the legendary Coca Cola. If you are vegan, don't worry, there are burgers and dishes for you too.
2. Savuré
Savuré is a bet that began in 2013 and won this year, with the opening of a store in London. In front of the public eye, just beyond the counter, traditional Italian fresh pasta is prepared. From agnolotti to tagliatelle, from gnocchi to pansotti, from malloredus to gnocchi. It can be purchased both to be cooked at home, perhaps combined with condiments on sale in the same store, and to be enjoyed at the tables. Just choose a pasta dish, combine it with your favorite sauce and it will be served at the table. Any Piedmontese ideas? You can choose Agnolotti del Salumaio or Margherite with Langa cheese, combining them with Roast Sauce or Ragù di Carne Fassona (but there is also a very tasty Amatriciana sauce, Genoese pesto, cheese and pepper ...).
3. / pʌɪ / bikery
In the trendiest neighborhood of the moment, Borgo Aurora, where many Turin handmade workshops and shops are springing up, trendy clubs, designer studios, don't miss / pʌɪ / bikery. This place combines the passion for cycling with that for cooking. On the one hand it is a kind of workshop, where you can fix bicycles, on the other it is a place with an informal atmosphere, with old sofas, tables and a showcase of desserts, sandwiches and dishes prepared on the same day. The soups are reminiscent of grandma's, the pies mix local recipes with foreign spices. Herbal teas have creative and tasty blends. The savory pies are highly recommended, prepared with seasonal ingredients, salads, which also have a special look for vegans. And I wouldn't overlook the always delicious fresh fruit smoothies, nor my favorite citrus muffin.
4. The Fruits of Gaia
In the center, in a small but bright space, I Fruits of Gaia already in its name it shows its interest in well-being through a healthy diet. And healthy eating doesn't mean boring at all: you have to taste its quiches, smoothies and desserts! I Frutti di Gaia also focuses on the seasonality of the ingredients and invites customers to prepare salads according to their tastes, mixing cereals, rice, vegetables from the garden and whatever else is present that day on the counter. Try the velvety and savory pies, prepared according to traditional recipes, and fruit concentrates, which bear the names of the moods they would like to lead to. The staff is very kind and if they see you a bit confused, they recommend and explain the various dishes; it is really ideal for a relaxing stop at any time of the day.
5. Barney's
Il Circle of Readers it is a unique place in Italy, a place where writers and readers meet and where readers can follow in-depth courses on cultural themes and reading. In 10 years it has become one of the landmarks of Turin's cultural life. It is located in Palazzo Graneri della Roccia and in its stately rooms you can move in elegant atmospheres (but not serious or tiring). It is the same atmosphere that you find at Barney's, his bar, where you meet for a coffee, a snack, a lunch. On weekends, brunch is a must: it offers a rich selection of savory or sweet dishes (always with the philosophy of 0 km and with attention to the seasonality of the products) and allows you to serve yourself more than once. Mountain Tomini, Piedmontese cured meats, salads and fruit salads, savory pies, tasty desserts, you never leave Barney's dissatisfied!
