At Ca 'da Nonna, sleep in Vernazza in the Cinque Terre

At Ca 'da Nonna, sleep in Vernazza in the Cinque Terre

I had been saying for years that I would return to the Cinque Terre but then, for various reasons, I always postponed it, a few weeks ago instead with a decision of the last second we improvised an escape to enjoy the first spring suns.

On the morning of departure, during the train journey I contacted some structures and among these there was just one At Ca 'da Nonna: A small and cheap guest house in Vernazza. The choice fell on this country also because it was the one most affected, together with Monterosso, by the disasters of autumn 2011 and it seemed nice to be able to contribute even in a very small part to the recovery of daily life and tourist activity in a place. so lovely. Precisely for this reason we found this accommodation thanks to the list of reopened activities on the Save Vernazza website.

We stayed in one of the Luca Rooms, which are really located a stone's throw from the railway station, in the direction of the sea. Going up a steep flight of stairs, typical of the Cinque Terre, you come to a door that allows you to access the rooms that are identified on the site as 1 and 2: both overlook the main street. Our room was large and clean, with two windows that make it bright, for the summer there is also air conditioning. The bathroom is private and equipped with shower, hairdryer and service kit with everything you need. Despite being a landlord they come towels and sheets also provided at no extra cost, in the room there is also a mini fridge which I always find useful and the kit to prepare tea and instant coffee.

In March, on a midweek day (it was the night between Thursday and Friday) we only spent 50 €, a rarity in this area. The prices on the site are not found, you must necessarily contact the owner via email; but checking on a site like Booking for the night of August 90th, just to give an example of Very High Season, a room has a price of XNUMX €.

To book, you need to fill out the form on the website or call the owner Luca Callo, the reply by e-mail is really fast: we had an answer in less than an hour, which is essential because we booked at the last minute. However, I advise you to "stop" the room in advance if you can, especially in the summer months when tourism in these countries intensifies a lot and the beds are really limited.

The village of Vernazza is the fourth of the Cinque Terre, preceded by Corniglia and followed by Monterosso, has a very special charm because its main square develops directly on the sea, as well as the stony Church of Santa Maria di Antiochia from whose windows you can see water and rocks

PRO: definitely the really competitive price and the convenience as a location, between the station and the sea.
AGAINST: the proximity to the railway which has not disturbed us, but for those who are light sleepers it may perhaps be a problem and the steep stairs to reach the room, certainly not passable by the disabled or those with mobility problems.
