I have been to Venezia about 4 times, but before the last weekend I had never been to Murano or Burano. I didn't expect anything, but I knew these two Venetian islands by name and fame, to tell the truth I knew more about Murano than Burano by name.
I have so got the ticket to get to Murano and from here to get to Burano, the first was a disappointment, the second a pleasant discovery and a show! Murano is the island of glass. Here as soon as we arrived by boat, a series of gentlemen directed us to a factory, they said "say here gentlemen free demonstration of glass processing" and all of us, like sheep we went. What are you doing, free demonstration of glass processing on the island of glass and you don't go? Go!
After the demonstration, we were given a dry 4 minutes towards the store, obviously. We did not buy anything and we headed towards the center of Murano ... which does not have a real center. Lots of Murano glass shops, bridges, water and that's it. A disappointment. We then went to Burano, hoping that this would offer us something more. Well, Burano has conquered me.
It must have been colorful houses, the inhabitants of the island smiling and hospitable, it must have been the sunny day, I don't even know it, the fact is that Burano is beautiful, well-kept, maintained and with many restaurants and taverns (which were missing in Murano). So my advice is to visit only the Island of Burano, in half a day do both but ticket prices are high (€ 7 each way and € 18 per day - 12 hours) so if you have to choose, Burano is definitely better!
