Venice, between alleys and bridges, hides an infinite number of mysteries and crime stories, even if not all of them can be revealed between the walls of the houses, many in fact can be told from a different perspective, that of the canal. I speak to you today of a series of events that Davide Busato, Venetian writer and researcher, is organizing in Venice on a few days between May and June, in collaboration with the cooperative il Sestante.
MAY 16: CURSES, SCANDALS AND MURDERS AMONG THE PALACES OF VENICE
There are several palaces of the great Venetian lords who hide stories of crimes that few know. Davide Busato will take the participants along a boat route to discover the curse of Ca 'Dario, the crimes of the Stucky (current Hilton Hotel on the Giudecca island) and the Hotel Gabriel Sandwirth. We will then talk about the death row inmates by the Serenissima, who were hung between the two columns of Piazza San Marco, but I don't want to anticipate you too much! A suggestive, curious boat ride in the middle of the night to discover a hidden Venice, little known.
The price to participate: 20 euros pp
24 MAY and 5 JULY: APERITIF WITH THE MYSTERY
A meeting for an aperitif on the boat, in the company of eighteenth-century crimes told directly by Davide, who - if I know him well - will bring written testimonies, directly from the archives of the Serenissima, to support his stories. Despite having tried to get some anticipation, Davide remains mysterious, wanting to leave the surprise to those who want to participate.
Price to participate: 25 euros pp
7 JUNE and 6 SEPTEMBER: POISONS OR CLEAVERS, SERIAL KILLER AT THE TIME OF THE DOGES
The title is none other than the name of the theatrical show that will be staged on the canals of Venice aboard a boat. Davide Busato and Riccardo Benetti will do their best to entertain the participants in a show starring a well-known murderer of the 500th century: Biagio Luganegher. An alternative way to learn about part of Venetian noir history, between crimes and a bit of irony.
Price to participate: 25 euros pp
20 GIUNGO: THE CURSE OF POVEGLIA: HISTORY OR REALITY?
This boat tour also takes place immersed in the darkness of the night. Poveglia is an island that, especially lately, has made a lot of talk about itself. There are those who believe in the legend, while others, like Davide, who spent hours in the state archive in Venice, believe it a little less. During the evening the idea is to circumnavigate the island by eating together, and listening to the two versions of the story. At the end of the evening it will be up to you to believe David's legend or revelations on the subject.
May and June are tinged with red and black in the Venetian territory, I have promised myself that at least one of the events I will have to attend, absolutely! Venice is not only carnival, redeemer and bacaro tour, I who are in love with it and who was born there, I love to know it and discover it in all its damned beauty, and maybe even a little atrocious. The council of ten, the methods of investigation employed at the time, the curses that still frighten the few Venetians who still live there today fascinate me terribly.
I had the pleasure of meeting Davide, personally, at one of his events, and he definitely knows his stuff! What do you say, I wait for you?
