Sitting at a colored coffee table bar of Club Miletto hotels, in Campitello Matese, in Molise, I thought about how warm the atmosphere was. It is a hotel that made me feel at home, like family. A beautiful grand piano, at one end of the room, was the setting for a boy who sang involving in a very discreet way the guests eager to interact and left those who preferred to act as spectators calm.
I was sipping an excellent Whittington Infusion, the best of all those available, according to the waiter, who kindly took the trouble to recommend it: one of the best I've ever tried, in fact. If instead of a couple of biscuits for breakfast, he had served it with some better treats, I would have liked a lot more, but so be it. My neighbors played cards and planned after dinner in their comfortable rooms, my neighbor tried to keep the children still while praising her friend the excellent dishes of the restaurant inside, the young lady behind me agreed for a singing duet at the piano bar: the atmosphere was relaxed, amused and never chaotic. A moment of warm relaxation that contrasted with their eventful and reckless day.
As soon as I arrive, a wide valley hits me, the Plain, as they know it there, surrounded on 3 sides by mountains. With pleasant surprise, I discover that in spring it disappears to become a lake.
Campitello Matese, in Molise, is a destination that lovers of winter sports they know and love. It is located in the province of Campobasso, and is part of the Massif of the Matese. It is spread over a height of 1450 meters above sea level and is equipped with ski slopes that reach up to 2050 meters of the Mount Miletto (from which our hotel takes its name).

Campitello Matese can easily reach by train, getting off at the Bojano railway station which is about 18 kilometers away, or by bus coming both from Rome and Naples. The most convenient way to get there, however, is certainly the car. Direction Campobasso-Isernia, proceed for bojano and then go up taking the crossroads of San Massimo-Campitello Matese. The road is the classic mountain road, made up of more or less wide curves and hairpin bends, but it is well maintained and clean, as the snow blowers work non-stop both during the day and at night. In the evening, a dense mist almost always falls, so I recommend proceeding with caution but without fear.
