The prospect of the Expo to be held in Milan in 2015 has given a new aspect to the city, especially in the surrounding area Garibaldi station, where the cobblestones and old concrete bridges have given way to cranes and tall buildings still under construction.
Right next to this evolving Milanese area, a bridge that goes over the railway connects the most famous area of the "good" nightlife of Corso Como, with a neighborhood in its own right that seems not to care about the latest trends that surround it and which, randomly, it is known as Isola neighborhood.
In the frame of this part of Milan that maintains its own strong identity is the Frida, an original bar where you can spend a nice evening in a relaxed and out of the ordinary environment. Access to the restaurant is through an industrial-looking gate that welcomes you into a large courtyard adorned with plants placed here and there and by a wall covered with ivy.
The interior of the room is furnished with some tables from disparate graphics, many wooden chairs, a few leather armchairs and a sofa, of those that when you sit down it is difficult to accept that sooner or later, you have to get up from there. The original lamps hanging from the ceiling and the colored walls make the atmosphere warm and friendly. However, during the sultry summer evenings, the outside is the real highlight: under a canopy there are some tables at which you can sit in total relaxation. Behind the counter, a young and kind staff offers drinks for all tastes: from a glass of wine to draft beer to cocktails.
Shopping enthusiasts can take advantage of a free afternoon to visit Complementary Particles, the shop that the bar owners opened in 2007. This boutique overlooks the same internal courtyard as the restaurant and offers clothing for men, women and children with a particular focus on vintage and for the experimental creations of emerging designers.
Frida is a bar to be experienced in every moment of the day: during the lunch break you can stop to enjoy simple and cheap dishes, at aperitif time the drink is accompanied by pizzas, cus cus and pasta of all kinds, while after dinner the place is filled with people who occupy every space available, inside and outside. Do not miss the breakfast and the brunch Sunday, great for ending the weekend in style.
This particular place located on a happy island of Milan allows you to experience the city in a different way than the usual chaotic nightlife, spending an evening in a vibrant and welcoming environment.
