Gogol'Ostello in Milan, review

Tired of the usual hotels? Try the Gogol'Ostello in Milan: a multicultural reality to be discovered, where you will find originality, care and a lot of kindness.

Yes, I went back to Milan, lately I do it often, for work or pleasure. This time it was for a birthday. The city begins to no longer have many secrets, as well as the cheapest ways to get there or experience it.

Gogol'Ostello in Milan, review

On the last trip, my chronic disorganization or perhaps an insane desire for thrills led me to not book a place to sleep. I had seen something online but nothing more.
Having contacted hostels and b & bs already frequented in the past, such as Madama Hostel, and not having found a place, I started my online search.
Among the various proposals, the most convincing was that of Gogol'Ostello and Literary Caftè. A small hostel with only 7 rooms for 24 beds.

Where is the Gogol'Ostello

The location was also very convenient, in via Chieti, in the Corso Sempione area, about one km from the Arco della Pace and from the great Milanese green lung. However, a very quiet and peaceful area.
Reaching the Gogol is very easy thanks to the stops of the Lilla line of the Milan metro, Jerusalem and Domodossola are about 500 meters away and the latter is also a stop on the railway.

A fun facility

The Gogol'Ostello is in a 3-storey building, with a large and colorful open space just behind the entrance gate.
On the first floor there is the reception and the breakfast area, here to welcome you often you will find Asli and her thick curly hair, the owner who kindly answered the calls.

After the formalities he accompanied me upstairs to show me the common area, with the fake grass floor and then to the bedroom floor, where the laundry area was also located.

Room for six

My bed was in a six-bed room with en-suite bathroom, which I shared with four Greek ultras in town for an AC Milan match in the Europa League.

Convenient lockers in the room (with the key of the hostel and not with the personal locks) and the wall sockets near each bed, even the upper ones.
The classic bunk beds, perhaps not all, lacked the ladder to go upstairs, so you had to "take advantage" of the bed frame below with the risk of waking up those who are already sleeping.
The Gogol does not have a 24-hour reception, however, if you love nightlife you can rest assured: the magnetic card used to open the room allows you to access the stairwell leading to the rooms.

Breakfast is on the reception floor and is only sweet, an espresso or a tea of your choice, biscuits with jam or nutella, biscuits and a donut. Still and sparkling water and fruit juices are available.

Gogol'Ostello: Multifunctional Hostel

The Gogol'Ostello e Caftè Letterario was conceived as one multicultural space with a strong contamination of styles and interests. Each space is good for storing books in various languages and guides for travelers.

The first floor space is also open to cultural and recreational activities in which the inhabitants of the neighborhood are involved. From exhibitions to meetings, but also language courses and book presentations.
Fixed weekly appointments are on Mondays with Biodanza and on Wednesday with Tai Chi, while the second floor room can be rented for parties, meetings or private events.

Services and curiosities

I was pleasantly impressed with this hostel, small and cared for with passion. Very kind in keeping the backpack from the time of check out until the evening, having the return trip in the evening.

Small curiosity. The name Gogol'Ostello is the result of a dedication to Nikolaj Gogol ', Russian writer of the first half of the 800th century, and for a curious assonance with Gogol Bordello, a historic musical group.
