Tuesday ! the city of Perugia celebrates its patron saint, San Costanzo!
And like every year, the Borgo XX giugno district hosts the traditional one from 8.00 to 20.00 Great Fair of San Costanzo with numerous stands offering local products, crafts, curiosities, flowers, plants, clothing and many gastronomic specialties.
Among these there is the popular Torcolo di San Costanzo which is made at this time of the year. It is a flattened donut stuffed with raisins, candied fruit and anise. A true delight that best enhances its goodness with a glass of vin santo.
The celebrations then continue in the heart of the city, Corso Vannucci, where from 12 there will be one free tasting del torcolo di San Costanzo open to all citizens. For those who decide to take a look among the stalls of the Fiera Grande I highly recommend taking the opportunity to take a tour of Borgo Bello and breathe the typical air of this part of the city that I consider one of the most authentic because it has been able to maintain its strong Perugian identity over time, not giving in to single-brand and anonymous stores refreshments.
Here, in fact, it is still possible to find many historic shops, small clothing stores and furnishing accessories, as well as interesting testimonies of the rich Umbrian heritage such as the Complex of the Church of San Pietro which includes the medieval garden, the spectacular Giardini del Frontone, the lively Corso Cavour and the beautiful Basilica of San Domenico.
