Living Nativity Scene and Befana in Hot Air Balloon, in Matera, the 2019 capital of culture, there are many events for January 2015.
After the great success of the Baloon Festival, held in Matera from 9 to 12 October 2014, a new initiative opens the doors of 2015. In fact, the capital of culture 2019, a great Italian pride, has organized a new festival dedicated to hot air balloons, but this time all with a Christmas theme, or rather dedicated to the Befana. In fact, on the occasion of the bridge of 3-6 January 2015 there will be the possibility to book your own hot air balloon flight, but we are talking about a very particular hot air balloon… in the shape of a befana, which will fly over the skies of the famous city of stones.
In short, to end the Christmas and New Year holidays in a great way, do not miss the opportunity to look at Matera from an unusual perspective.
Among the parallel events that you can enjoy during your weekend in Matera there is also a nice initiative on nativity scenes called "Traveling among the nativity scenes”Already started on 8 December 2014 and ending on 8 January 2015, hosted at the Provincial Mediateca A. Ribecco in the main square of the city, Piazza Vittorio Veneto. The event, now in its eighth edition, includes the exhibition of nativity scenes, coming from all over Italy and made by individuals or assaciations. Visitors will be able to vote for the most beautiful nativity scene thanks to the purchase of a coupon (cost 1 euro), the proceeds of which will be donated in full to the construction of a well in Africa, which will take the name of Matera 2019.
Don't forget to take a nice walk in the European capital of culture 2019, where from 2 to 5 January 2015 you will also find a beautiful living crib to be accessed by reservation based on the time slot and at a cost of 5 euros.
In short, the capital of Culture 2019 is just waiting to be visited and doing it at this time of the year with all the events I have told you about is certainly a special way to savor life in the stones.
If all this is not enough for you, just outside the city you will find the Rock churches, which in the past were real homes, while today they are abandoned but still remain very fascinating and instructive. In conclusion, we can only agree with the choice made for 2019: Matera is definitely a city to be discovered and if you haven't already done so, there is still time to discover it thoroughly.
